4.7.4 Review Dates for Discretionary <strong>Card</strong>s<br />

In setting review dates for cards issued in accordance with the above guidelines the<br />

decision maker should reflect sensitivity to the needs and condition(s) of the individual.<br />

To avoid anxiety for the individual consideration should be given to extending review<br />

frequencies to the maximum allowed.<br />

Desk top reviews without the individual/family having to present, should be considered.<br />

5 Retention of <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Card</strong>s on taking up<br />

Employment or participating on Government<br />

Incentive Schemes<br />

In support of Government policy in promoting employment/training, the retention of<br />

medical cards (without a means test) is approved for people as indicated below:-<br />

Applicants returning to work or involved in Government approved/sponsored incentive<br />

schemes will continue to retain entitlement to <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Card</strong>s provided that they are:<br />

- Persons moving to full or part time employment.<br />

- Persons participating in Government approved/sponsored schemes.<br />

5.1 Full or Part time Employment<br />

Applicants in receipt of the following allowances/benefits, for a period of 12 months or<br />

more are entitled to retain their <strong>Medical</strong> <strong>Card</strong> for 3 years on taking up employment:<br />

- Job Seekers Allowance. (formerly Unemployment Assistance. UA).<br />

- Job Seekers Benefit. (formerly Unemployment Benefit. UB).<br />

- One Parent Family Payment.<br />

- Illness Benefits. (formerly Disability Benefit. DB).<br />

- Invalidity Pension<br />
