2ND WORLD CONGRESS ONWOMEN’S MENTAL HEALTHUriel Halbreich, MDDonna Stewart, MDSusan Kornstein, MDWe are very pleased to invite you to participate with us in the 2nd WorldCongress on Women’s Mental Health, which will take place in Washington D.C.,USA, on March 17-20, 2004 at the newly renovated Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.Substantial strides for improvement of women’s well-being and mentalhealth can now be recognized, but much, much more is needed. In someareas the initial step has been taken. Progress in knowledge about women’sbiological and psychosocial issues, disorders and treatment is impressive, butthis is only a beginning.Changing social priorities, increasing advocacy for women’s equality andwell-being are promising improvements, but promises should be fulfilledand materialized. Our goal in the 2nd World Congress is to present and discuss comprehensive, updated, well-rounded knowledge on women’s mental health. However, first andforemost, we hope to suggest practical, achievable directions for the near future. The complementary goal (which is of utmost importance for achievement) willbe increased awareness and education. The questions to be answered are: “what is current, what shouldbe done, and how?”The context will be the social- political- cultural- economic reality. The destination point will be the individual’s well-being and her mental health.State-of-the-art developments in biopsychosocial aspects of women’s mentalhealth, psychology, psychopharmacology and other treatments will be center stage, but the driving forces will be integration and practical day-to-day relevance andsolutions. The Congress main presenters will be opinion leaders in professional, biomedical and social science disciplines involving women’s well-being and mentalhealth, as well as policy and decision-makers who are integral to change.Physicians, scientists, mental health professionals, women’s health practitioners, women’s advocates and women who are interested in their own well-being andmental health are invited to present, opine, participate and listen. You are sure tofind topics of interest in one of many program tracks. The Congress is a partnership of people from multiple disciplines, severalorganizations and people with diverse interests. Our common denominator, ourintegrative force, is the wish to improve women’s mental health. We, along with theScientific Program Committee and the Washington Organizing Committee, hopethat you will be part of this exciting Congress event. We look forward to seeing you in Washington D.C. in March 2004.Uriel Halbreich, MDPresident, IAWMHDonna E.
