• Information on scholarships, co-op work opportunities, fellowships, andundergraduate research opportunities;• Issues surrounding balancing their work schedules and part-time working;• Insights into their individual behaviors which may or may not be indicative offuture success in their engineering degree, such as whether or not they areactually suited for this particular degree if they are displaying a pattern ofrepeating too many classes.Students may request an exception or substitution to their degree plan and/or a waiver ofprerequisites or co-requisites by filling out a form and having it reviewed by the Chair of theDepartment. Any disputes may be appealed to the Dean of the College of Engineering.Graduation time: It typically takes a full-time student four years to complete theundergraduate curriculum assuming that no courses are failed and enrollment was possible inthe required courses. The College Advisement Office works closely with the department andother colleges in the university to guarantee that required courses will not conflict. For thosestudents who are attending on a part-time basis, it usually takes between five to six years tocomplete the requirements for the B.S.E.E. degree.E. Work in Lieu of CoursesCommencement BSEE Degrees AwardedSpring, 2011 20Summer, 2011 1Fall, 2011 2Spring, <strong>2012</strong> 18A student seeking credit for work in lieu of courses must appeal to the department in whichcourses are offered that the student wishes to replace. <strong>LUEE</strong> accepts the decisions made byother departments if the courses replaced are used in the BSEE program of study. Work inlieu of courses can include military or industrial training, self-study, or on-line courses fromother sources than <strong>Lamar</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Students wishing to submit work in lieu of taking<strong>LUEE</strong> courses must request such in writing to the Department Chair under the guidelines ofthe university Advanced Standing Examination (ASE) policy. A copy of the policy isavailable from the department.F. Graduation RequirementsThe name of the degree awarded is the Bachelor of Science in <strong>Electrical</strong> Engineering. Therequirements for graduation consist of completion of the 124 credits defined in the BSEEcurriculum as maintained by the department and available for examination at any time in the<strong>Lamar</strong> <strong>University</strong> Catalog, which is posted online at the university website. When a studenthas reached their final semester of study, the department conducts a program audit of thestudent transcript. This audit is initiated by the student and conducted by the <strong>LUEE</strong>Administrative Associate. The degree plan audit form is then reviewed for completion and12
