The Director of the CooperativeEducation Office routinely meets with students about opportunities in Cooperative Educationand informally offers career advice as needed.<strong>University</strong> Career and Testing CenterThe <strong>University</strong> Career and Testing Center offers services to College of Engineering studentsthroughout their college career and specifically aids students in finding full-timeemployment. The <strong>University</strong> Career and Testing Center works collaboratively withDepartment Chairs, Student Organizations and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council inplanning two Engineering and Technical Invitational Career Events each year, whichtypically brings in thirty plus companies at each event. A general Fall Job Fair and SpringTexas Job Fair are also opportunities for students to obtain full-time positions. The<strong>University</strong> Career and Testing Center also offers career exploration and career planning,resume design and critique services as well as Workshops to all College of Engineeringstudents throughout the Academic year. The Testing Center offers a full functioningPrometric Lab where students can sit for professional, licensure and certification exams. Themost active for the College of Engineering are:Prometric Services:ASME – American Society for Mechanical EngineersBP US Pipelines and LogisticsCAENG – California EngineersGRE – Graduate Record ExaminationIEEEB – Institute of <strong>Electrical</strong> and Electronics Engineers BiometricsINCSE – International Council on Systems EngineeringWCET – Wireless Communication Engineering TechnologiesUpper Division AdvisingWhen students are admitted to the Upper Division of the <strong>Electrical</strong> Engineering program,they are assigned to our undergraduate faculty advisor. They must meet with the advisor atleast once a semester on a formal basis before they are allowed to register for the nextsemester. The advisor makes sure that the student has completed the required prerequisitesfor each course they register for, although there is automated cross-checking in theregistration computer program. A multi-part Advisement Form is completed and signed bythe student and advisor. One copy is placed in the student's file and the other is kept by thestudent as it includes their course schedule.Academic advising is individualized for each student in order to cover the following aspectsof their academic lives, including but not limited to, the following:• Course choices and selection, and degree requirements;• Regulations, policies, and procedures on transfer credits, and transfercurricula;11
