Once the need for a reasonable accommodation has been verified, the need does not have to reverifiedexcept at the time a family moves or when there is another change in circumstances.Examples: A live-in aide leaves the household, A disabled person leaves the household, A family member listed as disabled can no longer verify s/he is disabled, At inspection no medical equipment is observed in an additional room granted as anaccommodation to store or use the equipment, The health care or service provider approving a need for a live-in aide or other reasonableaccommodation has indicated that the need or the disability will be of short duration, The family member loses his/her disabled status, for example when a person on Statedisability returns to work. The live-in aide fails to appear at the PHA office at the family’s annual reexamination orfails to meet other PHA requirements for a live-in aide.This section does not relieve the family of the requirement to provide verification of thedisability of family members at reexaminations of family income and composition.2-II.G. PROGRAM ACCESSIBILITY FOR PERSONS WITH HEARING OR VISIONIMPAIRMENTSHUD regulations require the PHA to ensure that persons with disabilities related to hearing andvision have reasonable access to the PHA's programs and services [24 CFR 8.6].At the initial point of contact with each applicant, the PHA shall inform all applicants ofalternative forms of communication that can be used other than plain language paperwork.PHA PolicyTo meet the needs of persons with hearing impairments, TTD/TTY (text telephonedisplay / teletype) communication will be available.Additional examples of alternative forms of communication are sign languageinterpretation; having material explained orally by staff; or having a third partyrepresentative (a friend, relative or advocate, named by the applicant) to receive, interpretand explain housing materials and be present at all meetings.2-II.H.
