These solidsare compacted in the screw screen anddischarged while the screened sewageflows through the grit chamber.In the grit chamber, the flow velocitycauses the grit to settle. A longitudinalscrew conveyor carries over the settledgrit to a grit classifier. From there it isextracted and discharged using a thirdscrew. A built-in aeration system causesthe oil and grease to float and beremoved over a weir through a separatestorage zone built into the tank.
