The system principle – Merten System M 

A system with many combination possibilities. That’s 

what makes Merten System M one of the most fl exible 

switch ranges around. Design and surface options can 

be exchanged and combined with each other without 

having to replace the insert. No other switch range 

offers greater variety and fl exibility to adapt to new 

design requirements. The Merten System M inserts fi t 

all design and surface options. Just change the frame 

or insert and it’s done. 

Flush-mounted insert + Insert + Frame = Complete device 

Ease of use 

The fl ush-mounted inserts from Schneider Electric 

feature a solid retaining ring. 

This ring prevents distortion or deformation of the 

insert during installation and allows clean installation 

even with slightly uneven surfaces. An interlocking 

system is integrated into the retaining ring for easy 

installation of multiple combinations. This means that 

you only have to make an exact alignment for the fi rst 

fl ush-mounted insert. All other inserts of the combina-

The range of the area of detection can be adjusted in sectors with three selectively adjustable

Indoor presence detection. The system detects the slightest movement in the room, switches 

the light on and leaves it on until no further movement is detected or natural lighting is suffi 

cient. 

The power unit has two relay outputs: 

Relay 1: 

For brightness-dependent movement detection, e.g. lighting. The overshoot time is infi nitely 

adjustable at the sensor within a range of between 10 seconds and 30 minutes. The device 

constantly monitors the brightness in the room. Then, when there is suffi cient natural light, 

the artifi cial light is switched off even if there is still someone in the room. The relay switches 

phase L. 

Relay 2: 

Floating contact (electrically isolated). For movement detection independent of brightness e.g. 

ventilation or heating control. The overshoot time is infi nitely adjustable at the sensor within a 

range of between 5 minutes and 2 hours. 

The system consists of the sensor head and a power unit with a permanently attached 

interconnecting cable (length 2.5 m) plugged into the sensor head. Every sensor head has 

two sockets to enable through-wiring. A maximum of 8 sensor heads (art. no. 550419) can 

be connected in this way to one power unit (master-slave principle). Installing several sensor 

heads makes it possible to seamlessly monitor long corridors and large rooms for example. 

The sensor head that registered the last movement determines the overshoot time. 

Can also be controlled via an extension input. Sensor heads are installed in 68 mm ceiling

Secure and innovative: more than a way to the 

desired radio receiver 

The Merten CONNECT radio system fi nds new ways 

of transmitting the radio signal. To be specifi c: always 

the best way. Sometimes it leads directly to the target 

receiver and sometimes it is forwarded via another 

receiver – depending on which receiver is currently 

best receiving the radio signal. The re-routing 

technology makes this possible. Your benefi t: always 

the most reliable radio connections. 

Always in dialogue: Transmitter and receiver 

Transmitters and receivers are in dialogue for optimal 

transmission of the radio signal. That means it is not 

a case of sending out a one-way radio signal; instead, 

it is constantly checked that the receiver really has 

received the radio signal. The receiver sends a response 

indicating whether it picked up the radio signal and 

what the signal quality was. If the reception acknowledgment 

is missing once (e.g. due to a refl ective wall),

The Merten CONNECT radio system is a bi-directional radio network. That means that all 

devices can transmit and receive signals simultaneously. Thus it is possible for signals to be 

routed or for alternative radio transmission paths to be searched for (e.g. during temporary 

faults). 

There are two confi guration methods: 

■ The EASY CONNECT method: For the connection of max. fi ve devices which are in the 

direct vicinity of one and other (e.g. in one room). Confi guration is carried out manually. 

■ Using the CONNECT radio confi gurator: For systems between different rooms with up 

to 100 devices and extensive functions (scenes, central switching function, switch times, 

individual key assignment). 

For both types of installation methods a so called “system administrator” must always be 

integrated.

building can expect more than just a lot of hard

Presence detection indoors. 

If KNX ARGUS Presence detects smaller movements in the room, data telegrams are transmitted 

via KNX to control the lighting, blind or heating at the same time. 

When the lighting is controlled by brightness-dependent movement detection, the device 

constantly monitors the brightness in the room. If suffi cient natural light is at hand, the device 

switches the artifi cial light off even if a person is present. The overshoot time can be adjusted
