Using the learning underpinning EmotionalIntelligence, Habits of Mind and current brain research this program is an integral componentof <strong>Sunbury</strong> <strong>Primary</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s practice that supports engagement, well-being and transitionoutcomes for students. Students are encouraged to eat healthy snacks and drink water toremain hydrated throughout class.As part of this program children develop Codes of Conduct and Mission Statements withintheir classes. These artefacts describe the expectations for behaviour; attitude, an effectivelearning environment and the children’s learning responsibility.Home LearningHome Learning helps students by complimenting and reinforcing classroom learning, fosteringsound habits, and providing an opportunity for students to be responsible for their ownlearning. Home Learning is another opportunity for parents to participate in their child’seducation. <strong>Parent</strong>s, in partnership with the school, should encourage their children toestablish sound work habits from early primary school. Students benefit from completinghome learning regularly. Home Learning helps them develop organisational and timemanagementskills, self discipline, skills in using out-of-school resources and personalresponsibility for learning.In the Early Years (Prep to Year 4), Home Learning will generally not exceed 30 minutes aday, extending to 50 minutes in Middle Years classes.7
