System Operation3.11.1 CALIB ButtonCalibration is performed automatically upon power-up. Calibration may also beperformed at any time by clicking the CALIB Button. This initiates a processwhich calibrates the electronics associated with each of the ceramic elementsthat constitute the receiver array. A highly accurate tone generator in the sonarhead injects a tone of known amplitude and phase into the receiver channels. This calibration signal is received, the processor generates a lookup table of bothgain and phase offsets by comparing the received signal to that transmitted. Allsubsequent signals from that channel have these offsets applied to them beforefurther processing. This compensates for minor inconsistencies in the analoguereceiver channels.NOTETo ensure proper auto-calibration, do not power up, reboot, or calibrate the systemwhen the Sonar Head is being deployed or retracted, as any mechanicalnoise may affect the measurements.3.11.2 RESET ButtonA single-click on the RESET Button reboots the firmware in the sonar processorand initiates a calibration routine.3.11.3 Wet-End StatusThis status block displays the status of monitored Sonar Head items.Leak:HeadTemp:-5V:+12V:-12V:DipSwitch:Shown as a voltage value, the leak sensor indicates thepresence of water in the head. If the indicated value fallsbelow 3.8V the BITE button will turn RED. The systemshould be shut OFF immediately and the Sonar Headremoved from the water.Shown in degrees C, this is the temperature inside theSonar Head. The voltage shown is the measured value of the -5VDCpower supply in the Sonar Head. The displayed valueshould be close to -5 volts. The voltage shown is the measured value of the +12VDCpower supply in the Sonar Head. The displayed valueshould be close to +12 volts. The voltage shown is the measured value of the -12VDCpower supply in the Sonar Head. The displayed valueshould be close to -12 volts. This number is the HEX value of the sonar head configurationdip switch. This is a factory setting.______________________________________________________________________SeaBat 8101 Operator's Manual 3-18 Version 3.02

System Operation3.11.4 CommunicationThe Communication block indicates the status of system communication functions.NOTEIf the status of either the Uplink, Downlink, is BAD, the BITE button will be REDand the system will be inoperable. Immediate steps must be taken to find thecause of the problem.Uplink:Downlink:Internal:Ethernet:Local:Remote:Gateway:Subnet:Indicates the status of the uplink from the Sonar Headto the Sonar Processor. The indication will be eitherGood or Bad.Indicates the status of the downlink from the sonarProcessor to the Sonar Head. The indication will be eitherGood or Bad.Indicates the status of the Sonar Processor internalself-test. The indication will be either Good or Bad.This is the Ethernet hardware address of the processorboard within the Sonar Processor. The last six digitsare the serial number of the board.Operator Definable. This is the IP address of the SonarProcessor for Ethernet communication.Operator Definable. This is the IP address of the datacollection computerOperator Definable. This is the gateway IP address forEthernet communication. If the Remote and Local areon different subnets, the gateway will be used.Operator Definable. This is the local network's Subnetmask used for network communications. To change addresses in the Communication block, simply place the cursor onthe digit to be changed and increment, or decrement, by using the mouse buttons(depress the middle button to increase the rate of change).3.11.5 Firmware VersionThe firmware version number for both the Sonar Processor (Dry) and the SonarHead (Wet) are displayed. Please have these numbers ready if it is necessary tocontact RESON for technical support. During system power-on, the dry endchecks the version of the wet end for compatibility. If necessary, the dry endautomatically downloads the proper code to the wet end.______________________________________________________________________SeaBat 8101 Operator's Manual 3-19 Version 3.02
