Supplemental Text8.2.3 Offset Mounting of the Sonar HeadIn the case of a Sonar Head mounted so as to look at a river bank and underwharf structures, this discussion assumes a thirty degree offset to starboard. Ifthe offset value of this mounting configuration is not identified properly, the endsof the swath may be cut off by one, or both, of the depth gates intersecting thebottom display even when a motion sensor is used.In Figure 31, Line B represents the bottom as shown by a sonar head mountedthirty degrees offset looking to starboard. In this illustration, the depth gates arereacting properly to the motion sensor input, however, since the offset value ofhead tilt has not been added the only area of this new swath that will be visible iswithin the small box; everything else will be removed by the action of the depthgates.Sonar HeadLine BMinDepthMaxDepthFigure 31, Depth Gates, With No Offset8.2.4 Using the Head Tilt FunctionHowever, if the degree of offset (thirty degrees for this discussion) is entered atthe Head Tilt menu item, the layer formed by the depth gates will be rotated bythe same thirty degrees, as shown in Figure 32. For this discussion, the operatormust enter minus numbers for a starboard offset and positive numbers for port.______________________________________________________________________SeaBat 8101 Operator's Manual 8-3 Version 3.02
