<strong>Hornbill</strong> <strong>School</strong>‘Flying High’<strong>Job</strong> <strong>Description</strong><strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Support</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> (3)‘Flying High’Working together to Build aSuccessful Future for AllPOST/GRADE: Senior/Specialist <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Support</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> (3)Relationships: The post holder is directly responsible to the Headteacher for his/her general dutiesand responsibilities.Line Manager: For the purpose of the day to day line management the post holder is responsible to adesignated Deputy Headteacher, Phase Leader or Inclusion Leader as a member of the SeniorLeadership Team (SLT) who has overall line management for the professional element of the work.The Terms and Conditions of Service are managed by the <strong>School</strong> Business Leader.Main RoleTo support and assist the staff and school with the educational and pastoral needs of the pupils.<strong>Job</strong> Specification:• To support <strong>Hornbill</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s aims and be committed to the safeguarding, well being andinclusion of all children.• To lead a team of LSA’s or a specialist area of work as designated by the Headteacher.<strong>Support</strong>ed by the senior Leadership Team, the line management of other staff may include:1. Ensuring all learning support staff:a) have access to appropriate programmes of induction;b) are appropriately and effectively deployed;c) have their training needs identified and appropriately met;d) are aware of school procedures and follow policy;e) are aware of issues of confidentiality and professional expectations and conductthemselves accordingly;2. contributing, as required, to the appraisal of members of the LSA support team;3. implementing the school’s administrative systems as required, e.g. front of houseduties, admissions and attendance registers, staff time sheets, health and safetyrecords, data and records;4. any other duties identified by senior staff which may be reasonably required of thepostholder.• To implement all school policies including the equal opportunity policy.• To familiarise yourself with all safeguarding procedures and policies and to implement themappropriately.• To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/pupil/teacher/school work and to keep theconfidences appropriately – see safeguarding below.• To attend induction, staff meetings and relevant training opportunities.• To take active part in special events, outings and visits.1


• To advise the Teacher of any matter requiring attention such as concerns about a child, orequipment needing repair or replacement.• If required, be prepared to support Nepali Specialist Teachers in the delivery of Nepali Readingand Writing lessons (Nepali staff).• To keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, that isacquired as part of the job.• To follow relevant dress code and professional behaviours expected when working in school.• To assist with the preparation for school visits and with the supervision of children on suchvisits.• To participate in arrangements made for the review of his/her own performance.Specialist responsibilities and areas of this post are reviewed regularly in response to pupils andbusiness needs and post holders are required to be highly flexible. In some posts an additionaldetailed job list will be attached to main JD. In addition, you may be required to undertake anyelements of the LSA (Grade 1) or LSA (2) job description.
