DescriptionEnretech-1 is a dual purpose oil/fuel absorbent and bioremediation agent for use on direct spills oron hydrocarbon contaminated soil. The product contains naturally occurring bacteria commonly foundin oil bearing plants and common soils. When given a hydrocarbon food source and kept moist, the bacteria propagate rapidly within the fibres and break down the soil contaminant into itsnon-harmful constituents.ApplicationEnretech-1 is applied by blending the dry absorbent carrying the micro-organisms with thecontaminated soil as thoroughly as possible. Once the hydrocarbon comes in contact with Enretech-1,it will be absorbed and encapsulated by the fibrous active sites. Enretech-1 is dispersed by tilling andthere is no requirement for washing, milling or surfactant addition. Enretech-1 has been usedsuccessfully to clean up many sites. To-date, over 40 recorded projects, conducted in a variety ofcountries (including Australia), show an average reduction in total hydrocarbons (TPH) of 82% in77 days. Most of these remediation projects involved soil contaminated with common petroleumhydrocarbons such as diesel and sump oils. However, Enretech-1 has also proven effective in thein-situ bioremediation of transformer (mineral) oils and has also been shown to bioremediate somePAHs (depending on ring structure) and even synthetic compounds. The Enretech-1 technology canbe applied in both in-situ and ex-situ situations, but is most effective for use in emergency land-basedhydrocarbon spills where conventional remediation treatments are not practical due toenvironmental sensitivities or remoteness.Product Code: ENR010SIZE: 10kg bagPALLET QUANTITY: 72/palletBAG WEIGHT: 10kgBAG DIMENSIONS (cm):36 x 12 x 52Also Available:20L pail ENR011DescriptionThe bacteria in Enretech-1 are common, well-known oil degraders. Using embedded nutrients in thefibrous matrix, the bacteria (and other micro-organisms) cause a rapid bioremediation of thecontaminant compounds. Supplementary nitrogen addition is not usually required, except in heavilycontaminated soils.Nutrients and Bacteria■■■■■■Enretech-1 will not decompose until it has bioremediated the encapsulated hydrocarbons.Proven to bioremediate a wide variety of compounds. Technology verified by University andGovernment testing.Rapid encapsulation and immobilisation eliminates leaching of hydrocarbon.Safe and simple to use - requires no special training and crews are not required to beexpert personnel.Enretech-1 is non-toxic, non-abrasive, noncarcinogenic and non-volatile.Produced from a recycled, natural and renewable resource.Basic Instructions for UseA generic application protocol is available upon request. However, as every bioremediation project isunique, Enretech will work with the client to ensure the most suitable application protocol for a rapid, cost effective and complete site remediation.PO Box 1154 Moss Vale, NSW Australia 2577T 61 2 4869 3261 F 61 2 4869 3264 info@enretech.com.au www.enretech.com.au

Bioremediation of Contaminated SoilsThe Enretech-1 hydrocarbon biodegradation process is an extension of the company’s highly efficient oil and fuel absorbents. These are made fromrecycled cellulose by-products from the Australian cotton industry, as the company has a strict policy of not using virgin raw material when existingwaste sources can be converted. The use of certain portions of cotton by-products allowed the use of the indigenous micro-organisms that exist in this special type of cotton fibre.By engineering a complex nutrient system, we have enhanced a natural process where a powerful wicking action effectively ‘feeds’ the contaminantto the microbes who exist in small, fibrous “active sites”.Effective encapsulation of the hydrocarbons means leachingis essentially eliminated.Refinements over several years of R&D have produced a complex androbust remediation process that transfers easily to different soil typesand climatic conditions. However, because application isstraightforward and non labour intensive, and relatively littlemonitoring is required, it is also a very cost-effective process. No genetic modification or bioengineering of the micro-organismshas taken place. For soil contamination of up to 40,000 ppm of petroleumhydrocarbons, thorough mixing of the absorbent-microbial blendwith single moisture addition is usually sufficient for bioremediationto be completed to compliance level within 1 to 3 months.Higher contamination levels may take between two and six months, depending on the type and age of the hydrocarbons, and the soilstructure. On average, we see around 82% TPH reductions in 77 days. Hydrocarbon sludges can be remediated with regular tilling, the additionof an organic bulking agent and additional nutrients, but will require further additions of Enretech-1 to achieve the fastest possible results.Detailed application protocols are available from Enretech Australasia, upon request.Enretech-1 has been used to successfully bioremediate contaminated soils in a variety of projects in Australia and overseas. A list of projects detailshas been posted on our web site. Most projects involved petroleum hydrocarbons such as used diesel fuel and motor oil, however we have also hadgood success with treating: fuel oil in New Caledonia (above), oil sludges in Kazakhstan, light sweet crude in Mississippi, and oily sludges in the ACT(Figures 1 and 2). Enretech-1 is used extensively by the mining industry in Australia.FIGURE 1 Start of project:bioremediation of sludge pond containing assorted waste oils.FIGURE 2 Final stage of project:bioremediation complete and target levels achieved within 6 months.Enretech-1 was one of the first technologies accredited in to the Australian Technology Showcase (ATS) - a program of NSWDept. of State & Regional Development’s Olympic Business Roundtable. This program was designed to promote Australiantechnologies up to, and during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. It now continues, promoting these technologies throughoutAustralia and the world.Featured in the AustralianTechnology ShowcasePO Box 1154 Moss Vale, NSW Australia 2577T 61 2 4869 3261 F 61 2 4869 3264 info@enretech.com.au www.enretech.com.au

The spill will be quickly wicked up off the water and the spent Cellusorb can be retrieved byskimming or the use of nets. In most States, Cellusorb that has been used to absorb C 10 -C 36petroleum hydrocarbons, can be disposed to solid waste landfill. However, always consult your localwaste authority to ensure the proper disposal of used Cellusorb materials.STEP 1STEP 2STEP 3Broadcast enough Cellusorb to cover all of the oil on the water’s surface.Allow a few minutes for all of the oil to be drawn in and absorbed by the Cellusorb fibres.Collect used Cellusorb with rake or net, leaving an oilfree surface.Note: Loose particulate absorbents, like Cellusorb, are cost effective due to their very high surface area and significant absorbent capacity. However, if the spill area is large, or if the conditions are windy, loose particulate sorbents are difficult to apply. In these situations, the mostcost-effective product to use is the Enretech Absorbent Cotton Pad (Oil Only).PO Box 1154 Moss Vale, NSW Australia 2577T 61 2 4869 3261 F 61 2 4869 3264 info@enretech.com.au www.enretech.com.au

Booms, Socks and PillowsDescriptionEnretech absorbent booms, socks, and pillows are the most absorbent products available on themarket today. Most other products of this type are made of synthetic materials such as polypropylene –products that use energy and natural resources during manufacturing and are not considered‘ecofriendly’. Enretech booms, socks, and pillows contain Cellusorb as the absorbent medium -an organic sorbent manufactured from treated, recycled cellulose materials. Absorbent containmentsocks and pillows are available in both an “oil only” form as well as in a “universal” form (can absorb bothwater-based and oil-based liquids). Obviously, absorbent flotation booms are only available as “oil only”.ApplicationEnretech booms, socks, and pillows have a broad range of applications:■■■■Process industries use socks and pillows around leaking equipment to contain a wide range ofspilled liquids.Industries use booms and socks in collection ponds, dams and other wastewatermanagement systems.Spill response teams use “oil only” booms and socks to contain spills on roadways or waterways.Marinas use Booms and Bilge Rats to control oily pollution from bilges.Features and Benefits■■■■■■■■■Contains Cellusorb as main absorbent. Generic Spill Response ProcedureThe following is a generic procedure which can be applied to essentially any type of liquid spill clean-up in the workplace. As with all spills, knowwhat you are dealing with, and only respond if you have been suitably trained, have the required materials on hand, and are wearing appropriateprotective equipment.■ ASSESS THE SITUATION1 Get AwayThe first person to notice the spill or leak, should get away from the immediate area in order to evaluate the situation without exposing themselvesto any danger. Obviously, this might not be needed if the nature of the spill is known and is minor.2 Identify the Spill to the Greatest Extent PossibleDo so without being at risk. This includes identifying: a) the type of material spilled; b) the size of the spill and whether the leak has stopped;c) whether two potentially incompatible chemicals; and d) any unusual features such as foaming, odour, fire, etc.3 Is This an Emergency?Leaks that can be cleaned up by personnel on the spot or by maintenance personnel are not usually emergencies. Often what determines anemergency has been defined in the Emergency Response Plan and incorporated into spill response training. If this is not clear, or someone has beenseriously injured, consider it an emergency.4 Get Help for All but Very Minor SpillsWhen reporting a spill, do not leave the spill unattended. Establish a hazard zone that will keep non-emergency response personnel well out ofdanger. In emergency situations, the amount of training determines the degree of participation in the cleanup.5 Identify the Spilled MaterialIs it flammable, combustible, toxic and volatile, toxic or corrosive and non-volatile, or an oxidizing agent? The label and Material Safety Data Sheet forthe product should give information on safe cleanup.6 Plan How to Clean Up the SpillProcedures for common types of spills and leaks should be part of the Emergency Response Plan and training. Consider variables such as rain and wind.7 Obtain Proper Spill Control MaterialsThis would include spill control materials such as sorbents, containment socks, spark proof tools (for flammable liquids), booms, neutralising fluids, etc.8 Put on Appropriate PPEPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) can include respirators, gloves, goggles, etc., as needed.■ CLEAN UP THE SPILL9 Stop the Source of the Spill or LeakThis can include turning off the valve, patching a leaky hose, draining a tank, or up righting a knocked over container of liquid.10 Stop the Spill from SpreadingThis can include use of appropriate absorbent/containment materials such as socks (land) and booms (water), shutting down ventilation systems tokeep gases and vapours from spreading, and plugging drains to prevent contamination of the water supply.11 Use Appropriate Sorbents and EquipmentRemember, particulate sorbents are primarily suited for cleaning up small spills and the residues left over after a large spill. Absorbent pads can beused to collect the bulk liquid first. Watch out for free liquid as pads will tend to over-saturate.12 Dispose of Contaminated Materials ProperlyContaminated spill control materials and disposable personal protective clothing may have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. Contaminatedtools and non-disposable PPE should be safely decontaminated and stored in clean plastic bags for future use.■ EVALUATE13 File an incident reportThe incident report should be filed with the person responsible for EHS in the organization, for every spill, including non-emergency (incidental)spills. Evaluate your plan to determine if changes are required. Replenish all supplies. Many of the basic steps involved in cleaning up emergency and non-emergency spills and leaks are similar. The primary difference is the type and degree of hazard, location of the spill, level of training, and types of personal protective equipment necessary to clean up the spill safely.Even non-emergency spills and leaks take knowledge and training to clean up safely. This can be done as part ofstandard program developed to ensure your company’s compliance with State WorkCover and State/Federal environmental protection obligations.PO Box 1154 Moss Vale, NSW Australia 2577T 61 2 4869 3261 F 61 2 4869 3264 info@enretech.com.au www.enretech.com.au

About UsIt is now commonly accepted by most businesses and organisations that Risk Management and Ecologically Sustainable Development are the keysto successful growth. To this end, these organisations are integrating sound environmental and OHS practices into their day-to-day work practices -not merely for regulatory compliance alone, but for the better bottom line as well. Some of the key areas where activities have significantenvironmental and OHS risks and must be controlled, include:■ Hazardous Materials Management ■ Site Maintenance■ Waste Minimisation and Management ■ Risk/Liability Management■ Soil and Water Pollution Prevention and Control ■ Emergency ResponseAt Enretech Australasia, we specialize in the manufacture of organic absorbents and soil treatment technologies for the clean-up of a wide varietyof liquid spills on land and water. Our absorbents are designed for industrial and commercial applications and also we concentrate in thedevelopment of specialty sorbents for nontraditional areas such as foods, health and education. Our soil treatment technology is a simple, yeteffective bioremediation technology commonly used for the in-situ treatment of oil and fuel spills on soil. As a result, we offer our customers acomplete package of risk management and pollution control materials and services. All Enretech sorbents and products have been extensively tested as per USEPA, USDA, ASTM, CGSB and ISO and meet or exceed Australian andinternational environmental and OHS standards and requirements. Our products thus are an important tool in assisting organisations to meet theirobligations under Environmental, OHS as well as ISO 9000 and 14000 requirements.Enretech Australasia is a wholly-owned Australian company whose focus over the past 10 years has been on the manufacture of clean-up andremediation products using only recovered or recycled cellulose by-products. Treated via a unique process, we have found that these products havesuperior absorption, cost-effectiveness, safety, ease of use and enviro-friendliness when compared to other absorbent or soil treatment products onthe market. These findings have been supported by Universities, Governments and Industry Groups. We challenge anyone to test and compare.A Bit of History■ Enretech Australasia began trading in Australia (Sydney) in 1996.■ Australian Distribution network, International Distributors in Asia and Africa established by 1998.■Enretech products manufactured in Australia starting 1999 for the Australian market.■ Commenced export of Enretech products from Australia to S.E.
