Decommissi<strong>on</strong>ing Envir<strong>on</strong>. <strong>Management</strong> Plan (DEMP)When is a DEMP required?As a general guideline, a DEMP is usually required during thedecommissi<strong>on</strong>ing phase of:• Projects originally required to submit an EIA• Projects involving buildings c<strong>on</strong>taminated with asbestos materialsand/or lead-based paint• Projects involving the removal of organic liquids, hazardous materials orhazardous wastes• Projects generating in excess of 100 m 3 in volume of waste• Projects in which more than 50% of exterior walls are demolished• Projects in which the land areas is greater than 2,000 m 2• Project sites in which residual impacts may pose a threat to theenvir<strong>on</strong>ment or in which c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong> levels exceed regulatory limits.However, applicati<strong>on</strong>s are reviewed <strong>on</strong> a case-by-case basisThe DEMP must be submitted to EAD for approval prior tothe scheduled commencement of decommissi<strong>on</strong>ing 18
