47ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE20 FEBRUARY 20133TOURISM PORT DOUGLAS DAINTREE QUARTERLY REPORT JULY-SEPTEMBER 2012 FOR NOTINGPeter Boyd : 1/8/8-01: #3846224RECOMMENDATION:It is recommended that Council notes the Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD)Quarterly Report for July-September 2012 submitted in accordance with theResource and Performance Agreement between TPDD and Cairns RegionalCouncil.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:In accordance with the resource and performance agreement between Council andTourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD), Council has been provided a copy of thequarterly report for July-September 2012. The organisation remains financially soundand has satisfied the relevant obligations of the resource and performance agreement.Of note is the level of visitor satisfaction which is gained through reports prepared byJames Cook University on the region. The overall level of satisfaction was “verysatisfied” with an increase in the mean level over previous quarters.BACKGROUND:This report presents the July - September 2012 Quarterly Report by Tourism PortDouglas Daintree (TPDD) in line with the requirements of the Resource andPerformance Agreement between Cairns Regional Council and TPDD.COMMENT:The TPDD Quarterly Report July - September 2012 is presented as Attachment 1 to thisreport. The following A summary of the activities for the quarter as provided by TPDD’sExecutive Officer, Doug Ryan outlines:The region has performed well above previous years in the quarter as TPDD leveragesoutcomes well in excess of its revenue base to enhance the exposure in the RegionalTourism marketing arena. 48We have implemented our marketing strategy and believe we have maintained ourpresence in all our significant markets and we will continue to source new markets,including China, for the benefit of all in this region and the gateway of <strong>Cairns</strong>.We continue to work closely with Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) andTourism Queensland (TQ) in maximizing the exposure for Tropical North Queensland toall markets, providing support and product to enhance the destination.CONSULTATION:The TPDD report is a progress report on activities delivered according to the strategicplan for the 2012/13 year. <strong>Council</strong> officers understand that this plan is based on the fullconsultation with TPDD members and with the board of TPDD.CONSIDERATIONS:Risk Management:In accordance with the Resource and Performance Agreement, <strong>Council</strong>’s 2012/13budget provides $430,000 in funding to support delivery of actives by TPDD to supporttourism in the region. This report presents a quarterly report of progress on fundedactivities under this agreement and raises no additional funding requests or issues.Corporate and Operational Plans:Corporate Plan Goal 5:To increase the region’s capacity for long-term economic growth by supportingopportunities for local businesses and local employment.Statutory:A review of the financial statements was undertaken by GKS Chartered Accountants inaccordance with the Corporations Act 2001.Policy:<strong>Council</strong>’s role in economic development is defined in General Policy 1:05:02. Thispolicy provides for <strong>Council</strong>’s financial contribution to Advance <strong>Cairns</strong>, Tourism TropicalNorth Queensland, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree and Babinda Information Centre andfor <strong>Council</strong>’s support, through membership, of regional Chambers of Commerce.Sustainability:Not applicable.Options:1.
