Belowis the abstract of her winning thesis titled “GA Based Approach forAutomated Rostering System”.Asia Airfreight Terminal Company Limited (AAT) is an air cargooperator in Hong Kong. The staff rostering process in its ExportDocumentation Department is a process that its senior managementhas always wanted to improve. To tackle the staff rostering problem for AAT, in this project, anautomated rostering system is built. The objective is to minimisethe total number of shifts per week required for the staffs in theDepartment. By doing so, makespan is reduced and work efficiencyof the Department is increased.Low Carbon Logistics:Good Practice and Guideline for SMEsThe proposed approach is basedon Genetic Algorithm (GA).GA is a meta-heuristic methodwhich is popular in generatingsolutions in optimization andsearch problems.Data from Aug 2011 to Oct2011 is collected to facilitate theMiss Polly Ho was presentedwith the L&T Studies StudentThesis Award 2012 at the AGMprocess of designing the system model. As running the initial modelis too time-consuming, a modified model is built. A weekly rosterfor the week 16 Oct 2011 to 22 Oct 2011 is generated. Compared tothe manual method, the modified GA model provides a roster withfewer shifts required. In the end of this paper, further improvements are suggested in orderto obtain better results. The 11th CILTHKEssay CompetitionEnglish topic: Should the HKSARGovernment take the lead toencourage the usage of electriccar in Hong Kong?中 文 題 目 .. 香 港 特 區 政 府 應 否 牽 頭鼓 勵 電 動 車 在 香 港 使 用 ?Deadline for submission:11 January 2013Award Presentation:9 March 2013For Enquiry:28666336 (t) / 28666118 (f) /info@cilt.org.hkCILTHKissue 50 Newsletter 3
