<strong>ECB</strong> <strong>UKCC3</strong><strong>Performance</strong><strong>Coach</strong> <strong>Course</strong>Elite <strong>Coach</strong>Development Programme


The <strong>ECB</strong> <strong>UKCC3</strong> <strong>Performance</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> <strong>Course</strong>, the <strong>ECB</strong> High <strong>Performance</strong> <strong>Course</strong>(L3 CPD) and the <strong>ECB</strong> Master <strong>Coach</strong> <strong>Course</strong> (L4) all form part of the Elite <strong>Coach</strong>Development Programme (effective from June 2012). This new <strong>Course</strong> has beendesigned specifically to meet the needs of coaches working with performanceplayers in performance environments. The aim of the <strong>Course</strong> focuses on developingand equipping coaches with the knowledge, skills and thinking to work effectivelywith the most talented young players and adult cricketers and teams. <strong>Coach</strong>es whoprimarily work in recreational playing environments and whom do not meet thecriteria for this <strong>Course</strong> will now be supported through other coach educationpathways available after September 2013.The <strong>Course</strong> contains the following themes:<strong>Coach</strong>ing Philosophy of working with <strong>Performance</strong> PlayersCommunication SkillsLearning StylesLeadershipTactical Awareness and Game SenseMovement and BalanceBiomechanicsSkill AcquisitionPlanning<strong>Coach</strong>ing Fielding<strong>Performance</strong> AnalysisTeam <strong>Coach</strong>ing and Dynamics<strong>Coach</strong>ing Pace Bowling<strong>Coach</strong>ing Batting<strong>Coach</strong>ing Spin BowlingPsychology and Mental Toughness<strong>Coach</strong>ing Wicket KeepingFitness for CricketSpirit of Cricket. How to be an effective <strong>Coach</strong> of <strong>Performance</strong> PlayersSuccessful applicants to the <strong>Course</strong> will be assigned a personal Mentor / Assessor who will hold an induction; beavailable at certain times for face to face or group meetings; and offer support, guidance and advice when neededduring the learning journey.


<strong>Coach</strong>ing Philosophy of working with <strong>Performance</strong> PlayersThe exploration and development of a personal coaching philosophyUse a range of communication and inter-personal skills relevant to your players and teams. Create accurate and meaningful performance profiles of players and teams using observational andperformance analysis techniques including the ability to set, monitor and review goalsUse of video analysis hard and software to assist in player and personal developmentThe ability to promote and develop an effective learning environment with players and teams. Understand the principles of planning for macro, meso and micro cycles within developmentprogrammes and how to apply them with your players and teamsThe ability to self-reflect on own coaching practice and action plan for future improvementThe ability to conduct meaningful and relevant feedback with your players and teamsThe application of Technical, Tactical, Mental, Physical, and Lifestyle Management ideasAn understanding of skill acquisition for cricket coaches. The relationship between and integration of the various skill components of performanceThe <strong>Course</strong> is designed for coaches workingin the following areas (male and female):County Age Group U13 and aboveEmerging Players ProgrammeCounty Academy ProgrammeCounty Professional Programme. England Men’s and Women’s Development ProgrammesThe <strong>Course</strong> is open to coaches from the following pathways:County Board Workforce PlanningProfessional Cricketers currently or previously playing in one of the First Class Counties in England and WalesICC Europe. <strong>Coach</strong>es involved in <strong>ECB</strong> related Development Programmes overseas


To seek admission to the course you will be required to hold the following qualifications and certificates:. <strong>ECB</strong> L2 qualification plus the Club <strong>Coach</strong> AwardOR existing UKCC2 qualification plus the Club <strong>Coach</strong> AwardOR an <strong>ECB</strong> recognised equivalent overseas <strong>Coach</strong>ing qualification, South Africa (Bakers L2 or above),New Zealand (L1 or above), Australia (L1 or above). Active CRB, Safeguarding and Protecting Children (sports coach UK) and 1stAidThe <strong>Course</strong> is delivered over 8 personal contact days with the group spread over 3-4 months. There are areasof work, both practical and theory, to be completed prior to, during and after the <strong>Course</strong> which make up thecompetency-based assessment process.Completion of the <strong>Course</strong> requires a high level of commitment from prospective candidates. Before acceptingcandidates onto the <strong>Course</strong> the <strong>ECB</strong> will need to be satisfied that candidates fully understand thecommitment required and have a realistic chance of completion. The <strong>ECB</strong> will reject any application where itfeels this is in doubt. By applying candidates must ensure that they are available to attend all 8 contact daysof the <strong>Course</strong>.Each area of work will have a stipulated completion date which candidates must adhere to and finalcompletion and qualification must be completed within 9 months of registering on the <strong>Course</strong>.


During the application process <strong>ECB</strong> will be looking for the followingpersonal and professional qualities in a coach:A willingness and open-mindedness to learn. An ability to honestly and accurately self-critically reflect on theirown and their players’ and team’s performance. A previous experience of, or the potential to effectively work withperformance players. Have shown evidence of actively coaching and applying knowledgefrom a UKCC2, Club <strong>Coach</strong> Award or overseas equivalent qualificationThe <strong>Course</strong> cost to the candidate from September 2011 is £750, which must be submitted with your application.<strong>ECB</strong> subsidise the <strong>Course</strong> as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the development of high qualitycricket coaches.Following certification in the <strong>ECB</strong> <strong>UKCC3</strong> <strong>Performance</strong> <strong>Coach</strong> in Cricket <strong>Course</strong> there will be a number ofopportunities to continue your development as a <strong>Performance</strong> coach. They include:CPD opportunities on innovative and relevant themes to support your coaching practice.
