(03/2012) Page 49(2) Where an employee commences work he/she shall receive three <strong>and</strong> one-half (3½) hourspay at his/her regular rate unless:(i) his/her work is suspended for reasons completely beyond the control of theEmployer; or(ii) the duration of the work assignment is known in advance by the employee; inwhich instances the provisions of Article (s)(1) shall apply.30.6 Application of Agreement(a) Except as otherwise noted in this article, the provisions of Articles 11, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21,<strong>and</strong> 25 do not apply to casual employees. The provisions of other articles apply to casual employees,except as otherwise indicated.(b) Any casual employee who is eligible to vote in a federal, provincial, or municipal election or areferendum shall have four (4) consecutive clear hours during the hours in which the polls are open inwhich to cast his/her ballot.(c) Casual employees shall be entitled to the provisions of Article 20.1 (Bereavement Leave);however, such leave shall be without pay.(d) Maternity leave for casual employees with less than nineteen hundred <strong>and</strong> fifty (1950) hoursworked in a fifteen (15) month period shall be in accordance with the Employment St<strong>and</strong>ards Act.30.7 Health <strong>and</strong> WelfareIn lieu of health <strong>and</strong> welfare benefits, casual employees shall receive compensation of fifty-onecents (51¢) per working hour.30.8 Designated Holidays(a)Casual employees shall be compensated for the paid holiday, including Floating Holiday as follows:(1) An employee who has worked irregular hours on at least fifteen (15) of the thirty (30)days prior to a statutory holiday is entitled to an average day's pay for the holiday. This amount iscalculated by dividing the employee's total wages, excluding overtime, earned in the thirty (30)day period by the number of days worked.(2) An employee who has worked fewer than fifteen (15) of the thirty (30) days prior to astatutory holiday is entitled to a pro-rated statutory holiday pay. This amount is calculated bydividing the employee's total wages, excluding overtime, earned in the thirty (30) day period byfifteen (15).(b) a casual employee who is qualified in (a) to receive compensation for the holiday <strong>and</strong> who isrequired to work on that day shall be compensated at the same rate as regular employees in the samesituation.30.9 Annual VacationCasual employees will be entitled to receive vacation pay, accrued on each cheque, at the rate of fourpercent (4%) of their regular earnings. Casual employees shall receive their earned vacation pay upontermination or upon request.30.10 Co-op StudentsCo-op students shall be post-secondary students <strong>and</strong> each co-op student shall not be employed for longerthan twelve (12) consecutive months.Co-op students shall not perform any of the duties of an Analyst or Team Leader.
