(03/2012) Page 46employment, shall be converted to regular status effective the beginning of the month following themonth in which they obtained the required hours.30.2 Seniority on Applying for Regular PositionsCasual employees shall be recognized as in-service applicants when applying for regular positions.30.3 Seniority(a) (1) For the purpose of layoff <strong>and</strong> recall, a casual employee who has worked in excess ofthirty (30) days shall accumulate service seniority on the basis of:(i) all hours worked at the straight-time rate;(ii) designated paid holidays or days off in lieu in accordance with Article 30.8;(2) The total hours above shall be converted to a seven <strong>and</strong> one-half (7½) hour shift toestablish seniority.(3) Upon completing thirty (30) workdays (seven <strong>and</strong> one-half [7½] hour shifts), a casualemployee's seniority shall include the accumulated thirty (30) workdays.(b) For the purpose of layoff <strong>and</strong> recall, casual employees who are on a claim recognized byWorkSafe<strong>BC</strong> which arises out of a work related injury while employed by the Employer, shall earnseniority for all hours the employee would have worked had he/she not been injured <strong>and</strong> been able tostay on the job.(c) A current work unit service seniority list shall be posted quarterly in each seniority unit <strong>and</strong> shallbe provided to the President of the Union or his/her designate.(d)Those casual employees hired after May 14, 1999 shall have the following apply:Casual employees shall be called into work by insuring that the relative st<strong>and</strong>ing on the seniority listdoes not change within a six (6) month period of time. If a casual moves above or below the senioritylist, the Employer will insure that said casual employee is placed back into their relative st<strong>and</strong>ing on theseniority list within the following six (6) month period of time.30.4 Loss of SeniorityA casual employee will lose his/her service <strong>and</strong> classification seniority when:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)he/she is terminated for just cause;he/she voluntarily terminates or ab<strong>and</strong>ons his/her position;he/she is on layoff for more than six (6) months;he/she is unavailable for or declines three (3) offers of re-employment as provided in Article 30.5; orhe/she becomes a regular employee.30.5 Layoff <strong>and</strong> Recall(a)Layoff of casual employees shall be by classification in reverse order of service seniority.(b) Casual employees on layoff shall be recalled in order of service seniority provided the casualemployee is qualified to carry out the work which is available.(c) Notwithst<strong>and</strong>ing (a) above, casual employees hired for seasonal work or a term certain shall belaid off upon completion of the season or term <strong>and</strong> shall be subject to recall procedures in accordancewith (b) above.(d) Casual employees hired for special projects, as mutually agreed to between the Employer <strong>and</strong> theUnion, or casual employees hired under the auspices of the Ministry of Advanced Education <strong>and</strong> Job
