(03/2012) Page 28(g) <strong>Employees</strong> shall exercise their seniority rights for the choice of their first <strong>and</strong> second vacationperiods in two selection rounds, prior to November 30 th , after which vacation shall be awarded on a firstcome, first served basis. A vacation period is defined as a request for a continuous period of time off, inlengths of one day or greater, but not more than two weeks for each selection.(h) Vacation schedule forms shall be posted by November 1 st of each year in each work unit asdefined by the Employer. The complete vacation schedule shall be posted by December 15 th .(i) An employee who does not exercise his/her seniority rights within two (2) weeks after receivingthe vacation schedule, shall not be entitled to exercise these rights with respect to any vacation timepreviously selected by an employee with less seniority.(j) Vacation schedules may be amended at any time by mutual agreement of the Employer <strong>and</strong> anyemployee affected by the change.(k) The Employer shall make every effort to contact employees who are absent in order to establishsuch employees' preference for vacation.(l) Changes requested in selected vacation periods for compassionate reasons shall be given carefulconsideration. Such changes shall not affect the selected vacation periods of other employees.18.4 Vacation Pay(a) Payment for vacations will be made at an employee's basic pay, except if an employee has beenworking in a higher paid position than his/her regular position for a majority of his/her regularlyscheduled hours in the sixty (60) workdays preceding his/her vacation, in which case he/she shallreceive the higher rate.(b) Once per calendar year, upon thirty (30) days written notice, a regular employee shall be entitledto receive, prior to commencement of a vacation, a payroll advance equivalent to the amount of his/herregular pay cheque issued during the vacation period, except that no payroll advance shall be issued inDecember for any pay periods that fall in January.18.5 Approved Leave of Absence With or Without Pay During VacationWhen an employee is in receipt of the Weekly Indemnity benefits or on leave with or without pay inaccordance with Articles 20.1, 20.5 <strong>and</strong> 20.7 which extends into their scheduled vacation period, thereshall be no deduction from the vacation credits for such leave. However, if the employee becomesseriously ill or injured, while on vacation, the vacation days shall be rescheduled providing the employeesubmits supporting medical documentation to the Employer immediately upon returning to work, <strong>and</strong>dated for the vacation days to be credited, as confirmation that the seriousness of the illness or injuryinterrupted their scheduled vacation period. The period of the rescheduled vacation shall be taken at amutually agreed time. If the Employer does not agree that the medical documentation provided by theemployee supports the request for vacation rescheduling, the matter may be advanced to Step 2 of thegrievance procedure.18.6 Vacation Carryover(a) An employee may carry over up to one-half (½) of their annual vacation entitlement days pervacation year (not to be cumulative), with the exception of the first partial year where an employee maycarry over their full prorated entitlement. All vacation carryover must be scheduled <strong>and</strong> taken prior tothe end of the year. An employee shall not receive cash in lieu of vacation time except upontermination, resignation or retirement.(b) A single vacation period which overlaps the end of a calendar year (December 31 st ) shall beconsidered as vacation for the vacation year in which the vacation commenced.
