(03/2012) Page 2014.1 Hours of WorkARTICLE 14 - HOURS OF WORKThe annual hours of work exclusive of meal periods taken away from the workstation but including paidholidays will be nineteen hundred <strong>and</strong> fifty (1950), which is equivalent to an average of thirty-seven <strong>and</strong>one-half (37½) hours per week. The nineteen hundred <strong>and</strong> fifty (1950) annual hours means that all workschedules will be based on that figure.14.2 Work Schedules(a)This Agreement shall establish shift patterns <strong>and</strong> length of scheduled workdays.(b) The Employer shall determine when various services are provided (hours of operation), theclassifications of positions <strong>and</strong> the numbers of employees required to provide the services.(c) <strong>Employees</strong> shall have two (2) consecutive days off per scheduled workweek. One of those dayswill be either Saturday or Sunday, unless mutually agreed otherwise.(d)Regular employees shall work one of the following schedules:(1) Five (5) day week, minimum shift length of seven (7) hours with allowed incrementsbeing multiples of half (½) hours.(2) Nine (9) day fortnight, eight (8) hours per day, rotating days off.The Employer shall give two (2) weeks notice for any schedule change. Notice shall be sent via email.For those employees on a nine (9) day fortnight, days off will be rotated on an equitable basis.Shifts in a working week shall not exceed nine <strong>and</strong> one-quarter (9¼) hours per day <strong>and</strong> will not be shorterthan a minimum of six (6) hours per day. This will now be called the fixed schedule. The fixed scheduleshall not exceed thirty-seven <strong>and</strong> one-half (37½) hours per week inclusive. The Employer shall givetwo (2) weeks notice for any schedule change. Notice shall be posted on the lunch room bulletin board.14.3 Conversion of Hours(a) Lieu Days - where an employee is granted a lieu day pursuant to Articles 17.3 or 17.4, the timeoff granted will be seven <strong>and</strong> one-half (7½) hours per lieu day for a full-time employee <strong>and</strong> prorated fora part-time employee.(b) Vacation - where an employee is granted vacation pursuant to Article 18.1, the annual vacationentitlement shall be converted to hours on the basis of a seven <strong>and</strong> one-half (7½) hour day <strong>and</strong> vacationtaken shall be deducted in accordance with the actual hours of the employee's daily shift in effect at thetime the vacation is taken.(c) Designated Paid Holidays - where an employee is granted a designated paid holiday pursuant toArticle 17, the time off granted will be seven <strong>and</strong> one-half (7½) hours per designated paid holiday for afull-time employee <strong>and</strong> prorated for a part-time employee. Where the scheduled workday exceeds seven<strong>and</strong> one-half (7½) hours, the resulting difference shall be included in the work schedules establishedpursuant to Article 14.2.14.4 Rest Periods<strong>Employees</strong> working a shift of more than six (6) hours shall be given one (1) paid fifteen (15) minute restperiod during the first half of their shift <strong>and</strong> one (1) paid fifteen (15) minute rest period during the secondhalf of their shift. <strong>Employees</strong> working a shift of between three <strong>and</strong> one-half (3½) <strong>and</strong> six (6) hours shall
