Intermittent Extract FansSilavent intermittent extract fans provide rapid, local extraction andinclude axial, centrifugal and in-line options. The Silavent brand has asuperb reputation for reliability and ease of installation.The range includes low voltage (SELV) variantsand control features such as timer, pull cord andhumidistat options. For maintained propertieswhere units may need to be replaced on a plannedbasis, Silavent Mayfair plug-in specification fans arethe ideal solution.With the NEW Silavent Green Line range, Polypipeoffer energy efficient versions for customers looking toexceed the standards of 2010 Building Regulations.Fan options:AxialAxial fans have blades that force air to move parallelto the shaft (or axis) about which the blades rotate,hence their name. Axial fans are suited to shortduct runs which connect directly to an externaloutlet or grille.CentrifugalCentrifugal fans force air to move at right angles tothe intake of the fan using centrifugal force. Thesecentrifugal fans produce more pressure to overcomeresistance encountered in longer duct runs and aretypically quieter than a comparable axial fan.In-lineAs the name suggests, in-line fans are ductmountedaxial, centrifugal or mixed flow fans.Mixed flow fans move air in both an axial andradial direction relative to the shaft and will develophigher air pressure but move less air than similarsize axial fans. Other configurations do exist, including the use ofcontinuously running individual rooms (dMEV).Mixed Flow Fans combine elements of axial and centrifugal and are therefore appropriate for mediumlength duct runs.MVHR - Continuous, balanced Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery systems extract stale air fromwet rooms and deliver fresh air to habitable rooms. Heat loss associated with the air changes is reducedby a heat recovery mechanism.Pa - Pascal, unit of pressure for measuring system resistance or static pressure.PIR - Passive infrared sensor, detects movement and is used to trigger appliances.RH - Relative humidity. The ratio of the amount of water in the air at a given temperature.Outside humidity levels are usually between 60-70%RHThe target for indoor levels is normally between 40-60%SAP - The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) is the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s(DECC) methodology for assessing and comparing the energy and environmental performance ofdwellings.
