PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsibilities:I. Curriculum: The Academic Vice Principal:A. Chairs monthly Academic Council meetings <strong>and</strong> develops programsfor Department Chair training <strong>and</strong> professional development.B. Helps Chairs <strong>to</strong> conduct annual reviews of curriculum <strong>and</strong> departmentalgoals <strong>and</strong> objectives, <strong>and</strong> seeks appropriate resources <strong>to</strong> assist in curriculum<strong>and</strong> instructional improvement.C. Oversees publication of annual academic catalog, which describes courses <strong>to</strong> beoffered <strong>the</strong> following school year.D. Coordinates school-wide interdisciplinary curriculum development.E. Coordinates departmental book orders.G. Supervises <strong>and</strong> supports new academic offeringsII.III.IV.Teacher Hiring <strong>and</strong> Evaluation: The Academic Vice Principal:A. Assists Principal in teacher hiring <strong>and</strong> Department Chair selection process.B. Develops method <strong>and</strong> schedule for observation <strong>and</strong> evaluation of teachers.C. Reviews Department Chairs’ evaluations of department members.D. Observes <strong>and</strong> evaluates classroom teachers on biennial basis.Counseling: The Academic Vice Principal:A. Supervises <strong>the</strong> Counseling Department.B. Meets regularly with all counselors.D. Works with counselors <strong>to</strong> administer <strong>and</strong> report results of st<strong>and</strong>ardized tests,including AP tests, EXPLORE, PLAN, <strong>and</strong> PSATs.E. Manages <strong>the</strong> academic dishonesty/integrity process, including communicationamong teachers, parents, counselors, <strong>and</strong> students.Scheduling: The Academic Vice Principal:A. Manages <strong>the</strong> Forecasting process each spring.B. Creates <strong>the</strong> Master Schedule in SchoolMaster.C. Balances student <strong>and</strong> teacher schedules.D. Plans <strong>and</strong> manages student registration each August.E. Facilitates September drop/add process.F. Oversees final examinations each semester, including distribution <strong>and</strong> oversigh<strong>to</strong>f exams.V. Student Reports/Grading: The Academic Vice Principal:A. Oversees student progress <strong>to</strong>ward graduation.B. Works with Registrar <strong>to</strong> ga<strong>the</strong>r <strong>and</strong> distribute grade reports.C. Arranges o<strong>the</strong>r appropriate avenues of communication among students,parents, teachers, counselors, <strong>and</strong> administra<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> ensure students’ academicsuccess.D. Works with teachers <strong>and</strong> counselors <strong>to</strong> identify students in need of academicsupport, including those on academic probation.E. Creates programs <strong>to</strong> help struggling students, including progress reports, studyhalls, <strong>and</strong> academic contracts.VI.Professional DevelopmentA. Collaborates with Professional Development Direc<strong>to</strong>r.B. Assists with new teacher training <strong>and</strong> evaluation.C. Directs “Second-Year Vets” program, <strong>and</strong> helps <strong>to</strong> plan <strong>and</strong> facilitate Provincesecond-year teacher inservice.2
