YOUR ENERGY... OUR SYSTEMS... ANYWHEREProductrangePrysmian porcelain termination solutions - based on EPRpre-moulded stress cones - include a wide range ofproducts for the connection of underground circuitsand overhead lines. The long-standing experience withporcelain insulators has allowed Prysmian to develop, foreach voltage class, a comprehensive range of terminationsincluding several different creepage distances.Furthermore, all pre-moulded stress cones undergo factorytesting to check for manufacturing defects. This ensuresthat, once the termination is assembled, its reliability canbe compared to that of the cable it is fitted on.The pre-moulded stress cones, available for a widerange of cable sizes, are designed to fit with controlledinterference over the cable insulation and to follow thecable’s diameter variations. At the same time, theyguarantee a sufficient positive pressure to control theelectric field concentration under any service condition. The terminations are filled with an insulating compoundup to a level where the electric field is substantiallyreduced. The terminations base plates and the cable’smetallic screen are electrically insulated from thesupporting structure by means of stand-off insulators, designed to withstand both mechanical and electricaloperating stresses.More than 15,000 of these outdoor terminations havealready been installed throughout the world for voltagesof between 66 and 400 kV.> New filling mediumPrysmian’s latest development in the field of outdoorterminations is a new type of filling medium thatreplaces the traditional silicon fluid. The new patented medium is a special compound thatbecomes partially solid within a short time after thefilling of the termination, thus avoiding any possibilityof leakage. Nevertheless, the compound remainssufficiently elastic to withstand even the highestdifference in temperature.
