Planning aid, generalinformationBET − testing centre for lightning protection, electrical engineering andsupport systemsLightning current testBET with countless tasksIf only lightning current, environmentaland electrical testing waspossible at BET up to now, theBET Test Centre is now a competentpartner for testing of cablesupport systems. This combinationhas made it necessary to revisethe meaning of the name. If BETpreviously stood for "BlitzschutzundEMV-Technologiezentrum"(Lightning protection and EMCtechnology centre), since 2009these letters have meant BET Testcentre for lightning protection, electrical engineering and supportsystems.Test generator for lightning currenttestsThe test generator, planned in1994 and built in 1996, allows theexecution of lightning current testsof up to 200 kA. The generatorwas planned and constructed inconjunction with the Soest TechnicalCollege. Due to the intensiveplanning and scientific consultationrequired in the construction of thetesting system, this system hasworked without fault for 12 yearsand still meets the current standardtesting requirements. The main load of the test generatoris generated by the testing ofproducts from the TBS productunit. Here, tests to accompany developmentare carried out on newdevelopments, modifications of existingOBO products and alsocomparison tests on competingproducts. These include lightningprotection components, surge protectiondevices and lightning currentarrestors. Tests of lightningprotection components are carriedout according to DIN EN 50164-1,those for spark gaps according toDIN EN 50164-3 and those forlightning and surge protection devicesaccording to DIN EN 61643-11.
