<strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2006</strong>1092 nd Engineer BattalionDuring <strong>2006</strong>, the Battalion completed its conversion from a combat heavy battalion to amodular engineer battalion, which required retraining of soldiers and acquisition of new equipment.The 1092nd is now a battalion headquarters that contains a Headquarters SupportCompany and a Forward Support Company. The Forward Support Company contains themaintenance, mess, and distribution sections. In addition, the letter companies (A Company,B Company, and C Company) have been replaced with separate commands: the 115th VerticalConstruction Company, the 821st Horizontal Construction Company, the 601st EquipmentSupport Company, and the 193rd Engineer Haul Platoon. All of these changes requiredactivation and deactivation ceremonies.The Battalion has continued to show growththroughout <strong>2006</strong>. During the <strong>2006</strong> training year,the 1092nd Engineer Battalion Headquartersaugmented the Command and Control cell for theCERF-P (Chemical, Biological, Radiological,Nuclear and High-Yield Explosive EnhancedResponse Force Package). Along with thismission, the 821st Horizontal Construction Companywas certified to be the DecontaminationUnit for the CERF-P. The 601st EquipmentSupport Company was certified to be the Searchand Extraction unit for the CERF-P. With theSearch and Extraction mission, soldiers of the601st Equipment Support Company receivedadditional training in Oklahoma. The 1092nd Engineer Battalion has a number of soldiers whoare attached to the Recruit Sustainment Program.This program helps prepare new recruits to facethe rigors of basic training. The Battalion also hasa number of soldiers who are assisting the BorderPatrol in New Mexico. Battalion soldiers provide afirst line of defense to deter illegal immigrants fromcrossing the border.The Battalion conducted a number of InnovativeReadiness Training projects during trainingyear <strong>2006</strong>. These projects provided realistictraining for Battalion soldiers. Projects supportedduring the year: Mylan Park Project, which consistedof constructing a baseball field; CampDawson road repair project; <strong>Army</strong> Aviation Support Facility #1 in Williamstown, which includedhilltop removal and parking lot construction; renovation of a building at the Wood CountyVeterans Park; and culvert installation, tree removal, and parking lot site preparation at theAdjutant General's Coonskin Complex. Throughout <strong>2006</strong>, the Battalion headquarters workedwith units to improve readiness (training, military occupational skill qualification, and strengthmanagement). The battalion headquarters staff also planned and coordinated with the companiesand higher headquarters for the transformation to modularity that occurred in <strong>2006</strong> tomeet the requirements of the <strong>Army</strong> Forces Generation Model (ARFORGEN).51
