<strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Guard</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2006</strong>1 st Squadron, 150 th Armored Reconnaissance(Second <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong>)The 1st Squadron, 150th Armored Reconnaissance moved through force restructure(modularity) during <strong>2006</strong> and continued training with the North Carolina-based 30th HeavySeparate Brigade Combat Team. This transition and training placed the 1/150th ARS on thecutting edge of the <strong>Army</strong>'s modernizationplans.The Squadron transitionedover 125 soldiers into new militaryoccupational specialties ranging fromCavalry Scout to CommunicationSystems LAN Manager to BradleyFighting Vehicle Mechanic to FireSupport Specialist. These reclassificationsand subsequent training tookplace in eight different states.New and displaced equipment trainingwas a major part of theSquadron's training for the year. Theunit received the Light Medium TacticalVehicles (LMTV), PRC-150 (Hurricane)Radios, Javelin Missile GunneryTraining, Mobile Conduct of Fire Training (MCOFT), and is poised to receive new CavalryFighting vehicles (CFV), Bradley Fire Support Vehicles (BFIST), and many other maintenanceassets in the upcoming year.1/150th ARS soldiers conducted field training exercises twice during <strong>2006</strong> at FortPickett, VA. Training consisted of weapons qualification, forward operating base operations,and maneuver training. Inaddition, every three monthsunits conducted field trainingin their local areas, whichallowed soldiers to honewarfighting skills and assistin community action projectsaround the state.The 1/150th ARS ispositioned to be the saber'sedge of the <strong>Army</strong> <strong>National</strong><strong>Guard</strong>'s transformation to themodularity concept.45
