He had a good grasp <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> doctrines <strong>of</strong> God'sWord, land could state <strong>the</strong>m very orderly and also in wellselected language One <strong>of</strong> his hearers at Stra<strong>the</strong>rrick wrote ·aftershe heard <strong>of</strong> his removal :-" We in Stra<strong>the</strong>rrick are mourningfor him as he has left a fragrant memory behind him As formyself, I loved him next to my Saviour, as he was <strong>the</strong> meansused by <strong>the</strong> Lord to take me out <strong>of</strong> great CLarkness into marvellouslight" He was also given much to secret prayer, <strong>of</strong> which Ibecame convinced when we went to South Africa.~\..ngus Fraser was a very true and faithful friend. He wouldput himself out <strong>of</strong> hi';lI":ly to 0blige men such as might be hisenemies, but his friends, especially <strong>the</strong> Lord's poor, were neverforgotten by him. This was not {lone to gain praise, but as amatter <strong>of</strong> duty to <strong>the</strong> Lord's command and also to His peopleand cause in <strong>the</strong> world. He was a man <strong>of</strong> peace and did all hecQuld to maintain it.He was also a very intelligent, conscientious and faithful <strong>Free</strong><strong>Presbyterian</strong>, and continued so to <strong>the</strong> very last. All <strong>the</strong> movementsthat took place in our Church found and left Angusunmoved. He knew very well why <strong>the</strong> sepa,ratioll took place, andthat while <strong>the</strong> reasons for having taken <strong>the</strong> step remained heshould and would hold to it. So <strong>the</strong> <strong>Free</strong> Prflsbytcrian Churchlost one <strong>of</strong> her tmest and faithfulest elders, and onc who prayedmuch for her being kept faithful to God's tmth and to <strong>the</strong>Westminster Confession <strong>of</strong> Faith. We greatly mourn Oul' loss,whi.ch wc believe was his great gain. "Blessf>d are <strong>the</strong> deadwhich die in <strong>the</strong> Lord from henceforth: yea saith <strong>the</strong> Spirit that<strong>the</strong>y m:1}' rest from <strong>the</strong>ir labours and <strong>the</strong>ir works do follow<strong>the</strong>m" (Rev. xiv. 13).Wc express our sincere sympathy with his bro<strong>the</strong>rs and sistersin <strong>the</strong>ir time <strong>of</strong> ;;onow, and also with :111 \,...110 1110111'11 ourloss.-N.C.
