cENGINE ELECTRICALTwin Cylinder Liquid COl Ignition (Pulse, Pulseless) - Exploded View - TimingTiming ProcedureSTATOR PLATEEXCITER COILPULSER COILLIGHTING COILco~~ RFICAP120 Watt PulseType COl200 WattPulseless COlNOTE: Always verify timing of engine at room temperature only (68 0F/20° C).24. Verify and mark which flywheel timing line corresponds with the listed ignition timing from the chart at thebeginning of this unit. Refer to the method of using a dial indicator for verifying timing marks described onpage 4.12.25. Connect an accurate tach and a good quality timing light to the engine.c26. With the engine running at 3000 RPM point thetiming light at the timing hole.27. Position your head so there is a straight linebetween your eye, the stationary timing pointer, and the crankshaft center line. Note the relativeposition between the flywheel mark and thestationary pointer. If the flywheel mark is withinthe acceptable +/- variance, the timing is correct. If the mark is outside the variance, the stator willhave to be rotated either with crankshaft rotationto retard timing, or against rotation to advance it.NOTE: The recoil and recoil cup must beremoved to loosen stator bolts and change thetiming.28. Make sure all nuts and bolts are properlytightened after making adjustments.Acceptable VarianceFlywheelRotation!Flywheel LinesStationaryPointersNOTE: Acceptable variance is usuallyone line on either side of the dial indicatedtiming mark.4.178/94
