Ongoing Support and TrainingAll instructors are required to attend Senior Training each week, which is facilitated by the local RegionalManager.These training sessions provide instructors weekly contact with <strong>GKR</strong>’s local representative and classes allowfor:• Continued improvement in <strong>Karate</strong> skills.• Continued education in improving Teaching skills.• Reinforcement of Instructor responsibilities to adhere to <strong>GKR</strong>’s <strong>Risk</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Strategy andCode of Conduct.• An opportunity for instructors to be informed of new initiatives or policies implemented by <strong>GKR</strong>.• An opportunity for instructors to raise areas of concern.• An opportunity to discuss issues in a peer supported environment.Instructor Responsibilities And Main DutiesTo become an accredited <strong>GKR</strong> <strong>Karate</strong> instructor is an honour and a privilege. This privilege carries importantresponsibilities and duties.These duties and responsibilities are clearly set out in the Instructor Manual which is provided to everyinstructor upon Accreditation.Each instructor is encouraged to contact their Regional Manager immediately, if he/she has any urgentconcerns.Code of Conduct for students• Students should feel safe with other participants, club officials and your instructors.• Students must be treated in a non-discriminatory way and to receive a fair go.• Students should respect the rights, dignity and worth of all officials and participants regardless ofability, gender or cultural background.• Students should display control and courtesy to all involved.• Students should ensure that your decisions and actions contribute to a safe and harassment-freeenvironment.Code of Conduct for parents and spectators• Have a responsibility to respect the rights, dignity, efforts and worth of all officials and participantsregardless of ability, gender or cultural background.• Have a responsibility to encourage all children to participate and compete according to the rules.• Have a responsibility to adopt appropriate behaviours in all interactions.• Cameras and video are to be for private use only. No images of young people are to be publishedto the website or print without parental consent.Smoke Free Policy<strong>GKR</strong> recognises that exposure to tobacco smoke either directly or passively is hazardous to health.Accordingly, the following policy shall apply to all club facilities, functions, meetings and activities undertakenby the club and will apply to all members, officials and club visitors.FacilitiesAll dojos, halls and event venues are to be completely smoke free.<strong>Risk</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Strategy – May 2012


Participants And OfficialsSensei’s, Sempai’s, students, volunteers and officials will refrain from smoking while involved in an officialcapacity for <strong>GKR</strong>.<strong>GKR</strong> recognises the importance of educating club members of the benefits of implementing a smoke freepolicy and will endeavour to provide information to assist this process. Further information can be obtainedfrom www.quitnow.info.auPROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT<strong>Karate</strong> is a physical activity and as with all physical activity there is a small risk of injury. Through our intensiveInstructor Training Program <strong>GKR</strong> instructors are taught ways to minimise this risk at all classes, including theuse of protective equipment where applicable.Blood Rule Guidelines<strong>GKR</strong> recognises that there is a small risk of Blood-Borne Pathogens causing harm to members. Therefore, tominimise this risk, the following guidelines must be adhered to.• Any participant found to be bleeding must cease training/competing until such time as the bleedinghas stopped and the affected area is completely and securely covered.• Upon acknowledgement of any protective equipment with blood on it, the item must be changed,where contact with another participant is likely.• Cleaning of any blood spill should only be undertaken whilst wearing gloves.Special events/tournamentsAll of the <strong>Risk</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Strategy and its policies are adhered to when an event/tournament is held by<strong>GKR</strong>, with the addition of the following items.An event co-ordinator is appointed for each special event/tournament held by <strong>GKR</strong>. This person is responsiblefor ensuring the safety of all participants, officials, volunteers and spectators.VenueThe co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that the venue is safe and that there are no potential hazardsand that none arise whilst the event is in progress.Protective EquipmentThe co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that officials are aware of procedures re the wearing of protectiveequipment at the event.OfficialsThe co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that all officials and volunteers are aware of <strong>GKR</strong>’s Code ofConduct and that they hold any state relevant Working with Children Checks. The coordinator is the officials/volunteers go to person should any issues arise.Behaviour Of Participants And SpectatorsThe co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that a copy of the Code of Conduct for students and spectatorsis on display at the venue. The co-ordinator will address any inappropriate behaviours by students orspectators, should the need arise.First AidThe co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring that qualified First Aid Officers are present at the event andthat appropriate First Aid equipment is available. <strong>GKR</strong> <strong>Karate</strong> – Social Media PolicyIntroductionSocial media offers the opportunity for people to gather in online communities of shared interest andcreate, share or consume content.Globally the interest and participation in social media is growing at phenomenal rates. This interest alsoextends to <strong>GKR</strong> who recognises that social media offers new opportunities to engage in conversations withstudents and other communities with shared interests.<strong>GKR</strong> embraces social media as an important tool of business engagement. <strong>GKR</strong> also encourages itscontractors to use social media in a personal capacity as a way to reach out and share information andviews with friends and communities – both old and new.With the rapid growth and application of social media, <strong>GKR</strong> recognises the need to have a policy whichensures that contractors who use social media as part of their job, or in a personal capacity, have guidanceas to the expectations where the social media engagement is about <strong>GKR</strong>, its products and services, itspeople, its competitors and/or other business related individuals or organisations. <strong>GKR</strong>’s 3 Rs of Social MediaEngagement are therefore ‘guardrails’ designed to protect the interests of contractors and the company. Inbrief, the 3 Rs ask that when engaging in social media you be clear about who you are representing, youtake responsibility for ensuring that any references to <strong>GKR</strong> are factually correct and accurate and do notbreach confidentiality requirements, and that you show respect for the individuals and communities withwhich you interact.It is important to note that this policy does not apply to contractors personal use of social media platformswhere the contractor makes no reference to <strong>GKR</strong> related issues.Given the rapid development and uptake of social media and its growing relevance to business activity, thispolicy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant and applicable.ApplicationThis section outlines how <strong>GKR</strong>’s 3 Rs of Social Media Engagement are applied if you choose to makereferences to <strong>GKR</strong>, its people, products or services, its competitors, and/or other business related individualsor organisations when you are using a social media platform.<strong>GKR</strong>’s 3 Rs of Social Media Engagement is a Company Policy of <strong>GKR</strong> <strong>Karate</strong> International and it applies to all<strong>GKR</strong> contractors and to any other person who is notified that this Company Policy applies to them.If you require clarification about aspects of this policy and how it applies to your own circumstances, pleasecontact your Zone Director who can provide guidance.Policy<strong>GKR</strong>’s 3 Rs Of Social Media Engagement Are Representation, Responsibility And RespectRepresentationYou are required to:• Be mindful during your social media engagements of the importance of not damaging <strong>GKR</strong>’s reputation,commercial interests and/or bringing <strong>GKR</strong> into disrepute;• Disclose only publicly available information. You must not comment on or disclose confidential <strong>GKR</strong>information (such as financial information, future business performance, business plans, etc). If yourequire clarification about what <strong>GKR</strong> information is in the public domain, you should refer to gkrkarate.com or your Zone Director.• Ensure that any content you publish is factually accurate and complies with relevant company policies,particularly those relating to <strong>GKR</strong>’s <strong>Risk</strong> <strong>Management</strong>, Code of Conduct and Privacy Policies. Forother matters, alert the relevant topic expert who is authorised for social media engagement and, if thesituation requires a real time response, let the other party know that the request has reached <strong>GKR</strong> forresponse;• Ensure you do not post material that is obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, discriminatory orhateful to another person or entity, including <strong>GKR</strong>, its students, its contractors, its partners, its competitorsand/or other business related individuals or organisations;ResponsibilityYou are personally responsible for the content of your posts online. In this context, you have aresponsibility to ensure that:• Any information about <strong>GKR</strong> products and services that you provide is informed and factually accurate. Ifyou wish to express your opinions please state they are your personal opinions.• If you are offering your personal perspective on a matter related to <strong>GKR</strong>, be mindful that your commentaryand opinion does not cause damage to <strong>GKR</strong> or its commercial interests.• Ensure you do not disclose other people’s personal information in social media venues.RespectYou are required to:• Be respectful of all individuals and communities with which you interact online;• Be polite and respectful of other opinions, even in times of heated discussion and debate;• Adhere to the Terms Of Use, and seek to conform to the cultural and behavioural norms, of the socialmedia platform being used;• Respect copyright, privacy, financial disclosure and other applicable laws when publishing on social mediaplatforms. Check with your Zone Director if you are not certain about what you can reproduce or discloseon social media platforms.<strong>GKR</strong>’s 3 Rs apply when:• You are authorised to represent <strong>GKR</strong> on social media platforms and are using a social media platform forbusiness purposes.• You choose to make references to <strong>GKR</strong>, its people, products or services, and/or other business relatedindividuals or organisations when you are using a social media platform in a personal capacity.• <strong>GKR</strong>’s Social Media Engagement Policy does not apply to personal use of social media platforms whereyou make no reference to <strong>GKR</strong> related issues.Social Media ToolsSocial media tools include:• Social networking sites eg Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Friendster.• Video and photo sharing websites eg Flickr, YouTube.• Micro-blogging sites eg Twitter.• Weblogs, including corporate blogs, personal blogs or blogs hosted by traditional media publications.• Forums and discussion boards such as Whirlpool, Yahoo! Groups or Google Groups.• Online encyclopaedias such as Wikipedia.• Any other web sites that allow individual users or companies to use simple publishing tools.Breach of PolicyAs is the case with all of <strong>GKR</strong>’s company policies, if you do not comply with this Policy you may facedisciplinary action.
