Student life and extracurricular activitiesThe Petroleum Institute offers a wide array of student activities and services to cater student’s extra-curricularinterests.Student CouncilStudent Councils are dedicated to bringing about a sense of community amongst the students and to enabling thestudents to organize themselves.Student Clubs & Professional ChaptersExtra-curricular activities are an integral aspect of on-campus life at the Petroleum Institute. Students are encouragedto propose new clubs, participate in student-run activities, and become active members of our community.The American Institute of chemical engineers (AIChE) is a professional association of more than 40,000 chemicalengineers in 93 countries. The AIChE student chapter was launched in spring 2009 under the supervision ofDr. Ahmed Al Shoaibi. The aim of this student chapter at the PI is to involve our students with other chemicalengineering students from various institutions in the world through conferences and forums. The AIChE female andmale student chapters organize events such seminars, regional quiz competitions, plant trips, BBQ’s, ports day,bowling evenings, movie nights, among others.Sports Facilities and RecreationThe current sports facilities (Asab Building) comprise two gymnasiums, four indoor halls (volleyball, handball,basketball,and badminton), two studios (aerobics and martial arts), two indoor tennis courts, two squash courts and a grassfootball pitch.Student Centers/LoungesPI provides students with comfortable lounge facilities throughout the two campuses. These areas offer studentsa focal point for meetings and relaxation.
