CIP Courses and CE Credits- Attendance Does Count -When you take a CIP course, you may be eligible to receive 28 hours ofContinuing Education Credits. There are a few Alberta InsuranceCouncil stipulations to be aware of regarding your eligibility:• Whether you study through Distance Learning or InClassinstruction, if you pass the course you will get the CE hours.• If you take the course by Distance Learning and don’t pass thecourse, you will not get the CE hours.• If you take the course by InClass instruction and don’t pass thecourse, you must have attended 75% of the class sessions in orderto get the CE hours. If you miss too many classes (or partialclasses), you will not be eligible. The Difference between Distance Learning and InClass/WebClass:Distance Learning – study on your own and your whole grade is out ofthe 200 point final exam (plus up to 10 Test Paper bonus points if yousubmit them)InClass/WebClass – you have the input of an Instructor and your totalmark is calculated out of 300 points – 200 points for the final and 100points for the InClass portion which includes assignments, quizzes, and amidterm. What’s your preference?Lethbridge, Medicine Hat & Red Deer …….Back on the CIP course mapWebClasses are a good alternative for flexibility and for areas in whichthere are no live courses offered.Alberta’s First CIP WebClassIn Winter 09, IISA hosted Alberta’s firstWebClass with Barb Exton at the C13 helm. The Insurance Institute strives to offerconvenient and accessible educationalofferings. But, with valuable input from ourpioneering students and Barb, we will forgeonward and finesse the platform even further.Having a training session you want to get outof your own office to improve attendeeproductivity and attention level?IISA has three classrooms to meet your needs.Benefits include:- located at edge of downtown near CTrainand amenities- removing employees from their own worksettings can reduce distractions- cost effective - $100 per dayThat said, we are please to say that Medicine Hat and Red Deer both hadC14 classes in the Winter 09 semester. We hope to continue with live class offerings in these cities and areplanning on at least one class in Red Deer and Lethbridge in the Fall. Please contact the IISA to help us plan to better serve you. Please update your Member Profile! It's important that you keep your information current... as this is IISA’s communication link to you.It is also your best source for your class information and your exam marks. It is also your easiest way to register for events, seminars, and courses. So many reasons to update your profile.Page5
