NSCAA COACHING ACADEMYCourse Information SheetThe Darlington SchoolJuly 29 – August 4, 2013 – Rome, GA<strong>National</strong> and Advanced <strong>National</strong> Diplomas1. Check-In and Departure: All course participants, including commuters, should arrive on Monday, July 29 th , in time tocheck-in between 2:00-5:00 pm. Check-in will be on the Darlington School campus outside the Library. Candidatesshould plan departure no earlier than 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 4 th .2. Travel: Transportation to and from The Darlington School is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> each candidate. The area is servicedby Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, located approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes from the campus. Coursecandidates should plan arrival for Monday, July 29 th , in time to check-in between 2:00 – 5:00 pm and should plandeparture no earlier than 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4 th .3. Local Transportation: Candidates are responsible for their own transportation from the airport to the campus and forreturn transportation to the airport upon departure. The airports is serviced by most rental car agencies for anyoneinterested in leasing a vehicle for the week. There is also an optional shuttle service provided by Darlington School.Shuttle Information:All candidates need to make a shuttle reservation no later than July 22 nd by 5:00pm EST!To make a reservation, please e-mail Leanne Mann or Amanda Davis at summer@darlingtonschool.org with your flightitinerary (arrival and departure times, dates and airline name)Cost: If you make your reservation by July 22nd: A One-way shuttle cost paid by cash or check is $35.00 and Round tripshuttle paid by cash or check will cost $65.00.One- way or round-trip reservations made after July 22 nd will be $45.00 and $80.00.Pickups: ALL pickups will be at the NORTH TERMINAL (blue signs). Please walk to carousel #1 <strong>of</strong> the North Terminal.You will see stairs, as well as escalators going down to the North Terminal self-parking. Please follow the signs down toNorth Terminal self-parking….once you exit the double doors to the outside you will see the BUS area pickup zone. Ourbuses have Darlington written all over them…They should be very easy to locate. All buses are either white or darkgray.July 29th pickups: (Refreshments will be provided on shuttles)All candidates…please remember that your opening session is at 6:00pm on July 29th, and either <strong>of</strong> these shuttles willgive sufficient time register and attend without a huge rush. Also, remember these are firm departure times, so planappropriately.Shuttle #1 – will depart ATL airport at 12:00pm (tentatively arrives at 1:30/1:45)Shuttle #2 – will depart ATL airport at 3:30pm (tentatively arrives at 5:00/5:15)August 4 th drop <strong>of</strong>fs: We will have ONE drop-<strong>of</strong>f to Atlanta’s Jackson-Hartsfield Airport. Departure time is: 1:00pmsharp. Please remember that sessions will be completely finished by 12:00pm on August 4th and it takes approximately1 hour and 30 minutes to get to the airport-with no complications. Please make your time <strong>of</strong> departure(s) lateafternoon or early evening!


Alternate forms <strong>of</strong> transportation to Rome: Shuttle Tran is a transportation service that <strong>of</strong>fers hourlypickup/departures to and from Rome to Jackson-Hartsfield Airport on weekdays. Pickups can be made on weekends byreservation only! Call 706-235-5466 and ask for Issac to make a reservation. A typical shuttle cost between $50-75-butcan be as much as $125.00. Rome has Hertz and Enterprise rental car agencies located very close to Darlington School.Candidates can simply rent a car one-way.4. Fees: Course fees for the residential academies are $1,100 for NSCAA members and $1,185 for non-members. The nonmemberfee includes an NSCAA membership. You must be a member prior to registering for the course or you will bebilled as a non-member. Fees include six (6) nights lodging (double occupancy), meals, course materials andinstruction. Commuter fees are $900 for members and $985 for non-members. A non-refundable, non-transferabledeposit <strong>of</strong> $200 was required at the time <strong>of</strong> application. The balance is due no later than Friday, June 28, 2013. Allchecks should be made payable to NSCAA Coaching Academy. For credit card payments, please call the <strong>National</strong> Officeat 913-362-1747.5. Lodging: Academy lodging will be in South Hall located on the Darlington School campus. Rooms will be reserved for allcandidates, prior to the course, by the NSCAA. Rooms will be double occupancy. Requests made for roommates will behonored, if possible, but we cannot house male and female candidates together. Roommate requests must be madeno later than June 28, 2013. Candidates are responsible for all other incidental expenses (key deposit, parking, phone,fans, etc.). The Darlington School street address is 1014 Cave Spring Rd., Rome, GA 30161.The NSCAA Academy fee covers the cost <strong>of</strong> five nights lodging (July 29 – Aug. 4). Candidates arriving prior to July 29 thand departing after August 4 th are responsible for the cost <strong>of</strong> additional nights lodging and should make their ownarrangements.You may bring electrical fans for your room if you desire. The room package includes pillows, linens, one blanket andtowel service. You should bring extra towels, soap, shampoo and other personal items.6. Meals: Candidates are provided 15 meals as a part <strong>of</strong> the registration fee, including six (6) breakfasts, five (5) lunchesand five (5) dinners. Meal service begins with breakfast on Tuesday, July 30 th and ends with breakfast on Sunday,August 4 th . All meals will be served in the campus Dining Hall. Food-service hours and locations for the <strong>academy</strong> will beannounced at the first <strong>academy</strong> meeting on Monday (July 30 th ). Cost <strong>of</strong> any additional meals, en route to and fromDarlington, is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> each candidate.7. First Meeting: The first meeting for all candidates will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30 th on the Darlington Schoolcampus and attendance is mandatory. The location <strong>of</strong> this meeting will be indicated at registration. General courseorientation and procedures will be covered and all candidates will be provided with the schedule <strong>of</strong> the week's activities(if any changes have been made).8. What to Bring: July weather in Georgia will be hot. We recommend being prepared for rain and strongly suggestsunscreen and caps. Among other personal items, you should bring a polo/golf shirt, water bottle, shin guards, anotebook with paper, pens and pencils, practice gear, training suit, rain suit, soccer shoes and flats.9. Course Preparation: The NSCAA and <strong>Soccer</strong> Learning Systems have produced several DVD’s for candidates wishing toprepare for the courses. DVD’s appropriate for the <strong>National</strong> Diploma candidates are as follows: “Technical Training”featuring Aly Wagner and “Methods for Teaching Attacking <strong>Soccer</strong> – the NSCAA 6v6 Model” featuring Doug Williamson,NSCAA Assistant Director <strong>of</strong> Education and Coaching Development. Candidates for the Advanced <strong>National</strong> shouldconsider the “Coaching 8 vs. 8 <strong>Soccer</strong> to Teach 11 vs. 11 Tactics” DVD. Candidates for any <strong>of</strong> the courses would als<strong>of</strong>ind “Coaching in the Game, Part I” useful in their preparation. All DVD’s can be purchased from <strong>Soccer</strong> LearningSystems using the following website: www.soccervideos.com.10. Physical Preparation: The NSCAA Coaching Academy is a highly intensive week <strong>of</strong> instruction dedicated to fulfilling theNSCAA mission <strong>of</strong> education. Candidates should be in good shape and ready for an enjoyable week <strong>of</strong> enhancing theirsoccer knowledge. The NSCAA Academy does not discriminate based on any physical limitations to perform.


Candidates that have any disabilities or health concerns, which might limit their participation in <strong>academy</strong> activities,should notify a staff member early in the week. You will find the <strong>academy</strong> staff very dedicated and ready to help you.11. Safety: The NSCAA reminds coaches that they must have their own insurance coverage. NSCAA will not be responsiblefor medical payment for injuries which occur as a result <strong>of</strong> participation in the course. The NSCAA also reminds coachesto wear shin guards for practical sessions. <strong>Coaches</strong> participating in practical sessions without wearing shin guards do soat their own risk.12. Curriculum: All candidates will be given a course curriculum when you check-in on-site however all curricula is availableonline using the following link: http://www.<strong>nscaa</strong>.com/education/online/<strong>coaching</strong>-<strong>academy</strong>-curriculum-material.Please make sure you check-in between 2:00 – 5:00 pm on Monday, July 29 th to make sure you get a book and any othercourse materials.13. Grading and Diplomas: Testing for the <strong>National</strong> and Advanced <strong>National</strong> courses is outlined in the course manuals andwill be discussed at the first session. Final grading for all courses is based on testing with oral, written and on-fieldevaluations. Course results and diplomas will be forwarded within six weeks after completion <strong>of</strong> the course.Candidates are advised that attendance at all sessions is mandatory to receive a passing grade. <strong>Coaches</strong> who miss any<strong>of</strong> the sessions will be awarded a certificate <strong>of</strong> attendance.14. College Credit and CEU’s: An opportunity to receive three semester hours <strong>of</strong> college credit through the University <strong>of</strong>Colorado – Colorado Springs is available by completing the <strong>National</strong> and Advanced <strong>National</strong> Diploma courses. The cost<strong>of</strong> the college credit is $200.00. Information, including all procedures, application and forms is at the back <strong>of</strong> yourcourse curriculum.
