Guidance CounselorJOB DESCRIPTIONPosition:Reports to:Employment Status:<strong>Description</strong>:NOTE:Guidance CounselorBuilding PrincipalRegular/Full-time/Part-timeResponsible for the development and implementation of the high school <strong>guidance</strong>program; assist and support students with concerns and/or problems; help studentsbecome more knowledgeable of the world of work and the skills and education related tothese; serve as a resource for students, parents and staffThe below lists are not ranked in order of importanceEssential Functions:• Promote safety of students• Maintain accurate records as required• Attend parent/teacher conferences• Take necessary precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities• Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student grades• Attend meetings and in-services per contract• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents and staff• Refer students with suspected disabilities according to building/district protocol• Attend parent/teacher conferences• Collaborate with colleagues• Provide individual student counseling• Administer standardized testing program• Organize and coordinate the course registration process according to grade level• Organize and coordinate freshman orientation, senior awards night, college informational meetings, andfinancial aid seminar at high school level• Provide student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the policy on studentrecords• Case manager for students with 504 plansOther Duties and Responsibilities:• Participate in intervention assistance team meetings• Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner• Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary• Refer attendance, health, academic and psychological emotional concerns or problems• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee as appropriate to the job titleQualifications:• Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university• Appropriate state of Ohio certifications/license Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may findappropriateRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:•Ability to work effectively with others•Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing•Effective, active listening skills
