ANNEX AProject 26 - 7:Project Manager:Participant/Liaison:Repatriation of <strong>Sahtu</strong> artefacts <strong>and</strong> recordsGovernment of <strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories - Prince of Wales Nor<strong>the</strong>rn HeritageCentre (PWNHC)<strong>Sahtu</strong> Tribal Council (STC), CanadaObligations Addressed:26.2.7 (a) In appropriate cases, artefacts <strong>and</strong> records relating to <strong>the</strong> heritage of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahtu</strong> <strong>Dene</strong> <strong>and</strong><strong>Metis</strong> which have been removed from <strong>the</strong> settlement area should be returned to <strong>the</strong>settlement area or <strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> benefit, study <strong>and</strong> enjoyment of <strong>the</strong>participants <strong>and</strong> all o<strong>the</strong>r residents of <strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories.(b) Government <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> participants agree to work toge<strong>the</strong>r towards <strong>the</strong> attainment of <strong>the</strong>objective in (a) provided that appropriate facilities <strong>and</strong> expertise exist in <strong>the</strong> settlement area<strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> proper maintenance <strong>and</strong> exhibition of such artefacts <strong>and</strong> records <strong>and</strong> consistent with<strong>the</strong> maintenance of <strong>the</strong> integrity of public archives <strong>and</strong> national <strong>and</strong> territorial heritagecollections.(c) <strong>Sahtu</strong> heritage resources may be housed <strong>and</strong> exhibited in appropriate aboriginal facilitiesas well as in o<strong>the</strong>r public institutions.Referenced Clauses: 26.1.1, 26.1.2ACTIVITIES RESPONSIBILITY TIMING GUIDELINES(in sequence)1. Advise <strong>the</strong> PWNHC of artefacts <strong>and</strong> records STC after settlementrelating to <strong>the</strong> heritage of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahtu</strong> <strong>Dene</strong> <strong>and</strong>legislation<strong>Metis</strong> which <strong>the</strong> <strong>Sahtu</strong> <strong>Dene</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Metis</strong> wouldlike to have returned to <strong>the</strong> settlement area or<strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories2. Assess whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> artefacts <strong>and</strong> records are PWHCavailable <strong>for</strong> repatriation to <strong>the</strong> settlement areaor <strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories3. Assess whe<strong>the</strong>r appropriate facilities <strong>and</strong> PWNHCexpertise exist in <strong>the</strong> settlement area or <strong>the</strong>Northwest Territories <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> propermaintenance <strong>and</strong> exhibition of such artefacts<strong>and</strong> records4.
