ANNEX AProject 25 - 6:Project Manager:L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water BoardDepartment of Indian Affairs <strong>and</strong> Nor<strong>the</strong>rn Development (DIAND) – Nor<strong>the</strong>rnAffairs Program (NAP)Participant/Liaison: <strong>Sahtu</strong> Tribal Council, Government of <strong>the</strong> Northwest Territories (GNWT) -Intergovernmental <strong>and</strong> Aboriginal Affairs (IAA), Affected governmentdepartmentsObligation Addressed:25.4.1 A single L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water Board shall be established to regulate l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> water use throughout<strong>the</strong> settlement area, including <strong>Sahtu</strong> l<strong>and</strong>s.25.4.2 The objective of <strong>the</strong> L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water Board is to provide <strong>for</strong> conservation, development <strong>and</strong>utilization of <strong>the</strong> l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> water resources of <strong>the</strong> settlement area in a manner that will provide<strong>the</strong> optimum benefit <strong>the</strong>refrom <strong>for</strong> present <strong>and</strong> future residents of <strong>the</strong> settlement area <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong>Mackenzie Valley <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> all Canadians. In 24.4, "l<strong>and</strong>" means <strong>the</strong> surface of l<strong>and</strong>.25.4.6 (a) Where, by legislation, any o<strong>the</strong>r L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water Board has jurisdiction in an area whichincludes <strong>the</strong> settlement area, it shall become <strong>the</strong> L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water Board <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> purposes ofthis agreement.(b) Legislation may provide <strong>for</strong> regional panels of <strong>the</strong> L<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Water Board in (a).(c) The <strong>Sahtu</strong> Tribal Council shall be consulted with respect to any such legislationReferenced Clauses: 25.4.3 through 25.4.7, 3.1.10, 3.1.27, 25.1.3, 25.1.5, 25.1.6ACTIVITIES RESPONSIBILITY TIMING GUIDELINES(in sequence)1.
