Francis is pictured below with his parentsat the function following the presentation in theCathedral.Francis has made a significant contribution to the<strong>College</strong> and the community. The following citationwas read by Lachlan McGrath (Year 11) at theArchbishop’s Awards:Francis O’Neill attends Mary Immaculate Parish,<strong>Waverley</strong>, and is a very involved student, being<strong>College</strong> Prefect, Prefect of the Sodality of OurLady, Cadet Warrant Officer One and SportingCaptain of both Rugby and Cycling. Francis’solid academic performance was rewarded byreceiving the Headmaster’s Medallion Award. HisSocial Justice Outreach has included involvementwith the homeless, care for the environment andthe promotion of Social Justice in younger YearGroups. From the Director of Junior SchoolFathers’ Day MassWhat a brilliant day last Thursday was for theDads, Granddads and all involved in our Fathers’Day Mass and BBQ. I’m always amazed at theturnout we get for such events and this year wasno different with over <strong>26</strong>0 dads participating in avery special mass at Mary Immaculate Church. MsRobinson once again organised a great serviceand Mrs Rollins and the Cantores provided us withgreat music and song. The morning concluded witha BBQ lunch cooked expertly by Mr Ryan and MrMeadley.Special thanks to the Mothers Club, in particularMrs Cathy Soden and Mrs Nicole Hatton fororganising the Fathers’ Day Stall and ensuring allthe boys had an opportunity to purchase a presentfor Dad.IPSHA AthleticsCongratulations to all the boys who participatedin last week’s IPSHA Selection Carnival. I havevisited all the Year 7 classes and we have hadsome great discussions about some of the morepressing justice issues facing Australia today. Iwill visit all Religion classes before the end of theyear. I thank you in advance for your support withthe Social Justice assignments. The Year 7 and 8assignments are designed to encourage the boysto think of others.All the junior years were treated to an excellentperformance last Friday. Fred Reid and his sonsand daughters performed dance, didgeridoo andshared their stories with the boys. I was so proudof the way our students entered into the spirit ofthe day. Fred commented on how welcome hefelt. The boys were very touched by Fred’s storyof his removal from his parents when he was onlya child.The Junior Social Justice group is working ona campaign this term. It is aimed at raisingawareness about the brand choices our studentsmake and how this affects people in othercountries. The boys chose this great issue withoutmy intervention. We will have another meeting atthe end of this week. New members are invited toattend.Thank you to the Year 11 students who gaveup their Wednesday afternoon to teach basiccomputer skills to our elderly visitors. The roomwas buzzing with conversation. The elderlycommented on how charming and patient ourboys were.Ms Geraldine Cullen, Social Justice CoordinatorFirst V Head Coach HonouredThe <strong>College</strong> would like to congratulate First VBasketball Head Coach, Mr Greg Radford, whoreceived significant recognition last week. In the2011 NSW Waratah League Annual Awards, Gregwas awarded “Coach of the Year” for his work withhis Waratah Youth League Men’s First Divisionteam, Blacktown Storm.He was able to take his team all the way to theState Finals, which is an incredible achievement,given the quality of teams in the division andthe fact his team had only been promoted fromDivision 2 in 2009.In the basketball community, Greg is highlyrespected and well liked, and is known for hisexceptional knowledge of the game.
