Session Outline1. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong>• why we are here <strong>and</strong> our philosophy on kids participating in cricket, i.e. it is about having fun!!2. General team management• parents <strong>and</strong> players3. Use of club facilities• training nets, club kits, club house4. Game day checklist (this is a requirement for insurance)5. Coaching <strong>and</strong> Training• make sure it is fun6. Game day• set up, umpiring, scoring, ringing in the scores <strong>and</strong> general running of the game7. My <strong>Cricket</strong>• entering results <strong>and</strong> managing teams (this will become your best friend <strong>and</strong> give the players somegreat stats to keep looking at)• Making sure all your details in My <strong>Cricket</strong> are correct as this enable QLD <strong>Cricket</strong> to give you somegoodies8. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong><strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong> are currently experiencing a period of sustained growth due to the ever increasing popularityof cricket in Brisbane particularly as the Australian test team will battle for the ashes this summer.Background of the <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong><strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong> is the junior club within the Mater Hill <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong>. Mater Hill was formed in 1975 <strong>and</strong> as theclub grew it then merged with the Eagles <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong>. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong> has continued to grow <strong>and</strong> now hasover 200 children playing cricket in the local cricket competitions <strong>and</strong> development games.Player Development <strong>and</strong> Enjoyment<strong>The</strong> <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong> provides a fun <strong>and</strong> competitive environment for boys <strong>and</strong> girls to enjoy the great team sport ofcricket. Our club introduces the sport to children from the age of 5 in our Milo In2<strong>Cricket</strong> program <strong>and</strong> offers club cricketfrom U9’s through U12’s in the EDJCA (Eastern Districts Junior <strong>Cricket</strong> Association) competition <strong>and</strong> U13’s upwards inthe BEARS (Bayside East <strong>and</strong> Redl<strong>and</strong>s <strong>Cricket</strong> Association) competition. We are a participation based club that aimsto engender mateship, responsibility, community spirit <strong>and</strong> physical health within our players <strong>and</strong> the wider community.We provide a safe <strong>and</strong> caring environment where individual players can maximize <strong>and</strong> develop individual talents whileenjoying the benefits of a working in a team environment.This strategic plan, developed by the <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> Committee, sets out the goals along with the necessary strategiesto achieve the <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong>s vision over the next 3 years.Strategic Statement


General Team Management– Players are there to learn <strong>and</strong> have fun butmust be respectful of other players, coachesmanagers.– Get Parents involved, give them jobs to do likeassisting at training, helping get players readyon the sideline.– Communication is the key– We suggest you don’t take this approach orthis one


Use of <strong>Club</strong> Facilities• Training facilities for the <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong>– Kit bags– Access to cricket nets at Clem Jones Centre <strong>and</strong> Whites Hills– Training equipment in the shed near the Clem Jones Centre nets– Hockey fields <strong>and</strong> athletics track– <strong>Club</strong> House– Committee meetings

<strong>Coaches</strong> <strong>and</strong> Training• <strong>The</strong> best thing that you can do at training is to make it fun• Make activities competitive – how many catches in a row, team vteam• Don't let the players have downtime, try <strong>and</strong> keep them all occupiedall of the time• Plan your sessions• Don’t over complicate drills <strong>and</strong> sessions• If they don’t get it at first don’t persist <strong>and</strong> insist as they will in theirown time• Resources are available on the <strong>Carina</strong> <strong>Cricket</strong> <strong>Club</strong> website <strong>and</strong>other sites – www.carinacricket.com.au• Training session guidelines• Have a Go <strong>and</strong> Have a Game session outlines• EDJCA Junior Coaching guide <strong>and</strong> online resources• Know the rules


Game Day• Setup– Game day checklist as described previously– Get there well before the start of the game– Home team sets up the field, the rules explain how to do this, field markers,length of the pitch• Scoring– Underst<strong>and</strong> the rules– Have a list from the coach of the batters <strong>and</strong> bowlers names– Don’t forget to ring in results– Have a good cup of coffee h<strong>and</strong>y or someone that can get it for you!• Umpiring– Underst<strong>and</strong> the rules– Get the signals right for the scorers
