Stationary Cut-Off WheelsGeneral InformationOptimum clampingof cut-off wheelsThe prerequisite for optimum cut-off wheelperformance is correct clamping. This is vitalfor protecting the user‘s safety. The adjacentfigure shows the things to be observed:➊ Machine spindle with high concentricity,➋ flanges of equal size and➌ intermediate paper layers if required forsecure clamping and safe usage. Our recommendations:- Replace the intermediate paper layersafter every second wheel change.- Always use intermediate paper layers witha disc diameter of > 400 mm.➋ Flange➊ Machine spindle➌ Intermediate paper layerPlease observe! The use of flanges with two unequal diametersis not permitted. The clamping systemmust be regularly inspected. Both flanges, between which the grinding tool is mounted, must have the same diameter and the samecontact surfaces (acc. to EN 60745-2-3:2007,AS 1788.1:1987, ANSI B7.1:2000).CorrectIncorrectMaximum operating speedSafety standardsPFERD is an oSa founding memberMax. operatingspeedColour bar80 m/s red100 m/s greenPFERD cut-off wheels conform to the highestquality and safety requirements and aremarked according to EN 12413:2007 forgrinding tools made of bonded abrasives.Together with other manufacturers, PFERDhas undertaken voluntarily to produce qualitytools conforming to the most exacting safetystandards.oSa member companies manufacture tothe most stringent specifications worldwideand are committed to continuousproduct safety and qualitymonitoring.PFERD tools carry the oSa mark.Safety recommendations= Wear eye protection!= Wear gloves!= Do not use if damaged!= Wear hearing protection!= Read the instructions!=Not permitted for hand-held ormanually guided grinding!207= Wear a respirator!Storage of cut-off wheelsPlease always store cut-off wheels horizontallyin dry rooms. An even load on a flat support is necessary tostop the cut-off wheels distorting.DGuideline onstoring tapered wheels (CT)Tapered cut-off wheels must always be stackedwith intermediate paper layers. Wheels mustbe subject to uniform loads and placed on aflat surface to prevent warping.Intermediate paper layer207 I3

Stationary Cut-Off WheelsGeneral InformationAdvantages of stationary cut-off grinding■■Universal cutting process for all steels, castiron, non-ferrous metal alloys and specialalloys.■■Smooth cutting surfaces and blank cuts duringcold cutting-off.■■Short cutting times, independent of thematerial quality e.g.material dia. 100 mmcold cut-off in approx. 7 s/cuthot cut-off in approx. 4 s/cut.■■Easy cutting of steels which cannot be sawnor flame cut.■■Consistent cutting quality over entire cut-offwheel lifetime until it is completely usedup, due to the continuous self-sharpeningprocess.Types■■A method of cutting cooled rolled or forgedparts in hot cut lines.■■Low thermal load on parts being cold cut.■■Cost-effective cutting procedure.■■Far less burr formation with hot cuttingcompared to hot sawing.■■Lower noise level than hot sawing, e.g. hotcut 85-95 dBA in comparison to hot sawing105-110 dBA.Dimensions, manufactured to customer ordersDia. Stationary Cut-Off WheelsPerformance Line SG-ELASTIC, HEAVY DUTYSteel core cut-off wheel SCT 1250Maximum utilisation of abrasiveThe steel-core cut-off wheels developed andpatented by PFERD stand out thanks to theirsandwich-construction solid steel body whichdoes not contain any abrasive. This special tool structure has the followingbenefits:1. The steel core allows the use of smallerwheel flangesAs a result:■ Reduced residual disc diameter■ Cutting of larger material cross-sections■ Reduction of the cutting costs2. The steel core improves the lateral stabilityof the cut-off wheelAs a result:■ Reduced cut-off wheel width■ Less loss of cut material■ Less chips or cinder waste■ Less machine power output necessary■ Shorter cutting times■ Higher material flow rate■ More sturdy, low-vibration cut■ Increased tool life■ Noise reduction3. Due to the abrasive-free steel core, there are no additional costs for thedisposal of the old wheel.12 I 207
