CHAPTER 6Configuring a NetworkConfiguring a network refers to setting up the three <strong>Firebox</strong> interfaces. To do this,you need to:• Enter the IP address or addresses for the <strong>Firebox</strong> interfaces.• Enter the IP addresses of secondary networks that are connected to and associatedwith a <strong>Firebox</strong> interface.• Enter the default gateway for the <strong>Firebox</strong>.Use Policy Manager to configure parameters for the three <strong>Firebox</strong> interfaces–Trusted, External, and Optional.TrustedModify settings for the Ethernet device connecting the <strong>Firebox</strong> to the protectedLAN or other host.ExternalModify settings for the Ethernet device connecting the <strong>Firebox</strong> to the outsideworld.OptionalModify settings for the Ethernet device connecting the <strong>Firebox</strong> to the optionalbastion network (this is sometimes called the “Demilitarized Zone,” or “DMZ”).As its name implies, you can use the Optional network in different ways. Onecommon application is to use it for a public Web server.Running the QuickSetup wizardDuring the installation of the <strong>WatchGuard</strong> <strong>Firebox</strong> <strong>System</strong>, you are prompted to runthe QuickSetup wizard. The QuickSetup wizard creates a basic configuration file andsaves it to the primary area (Sys A) of the <strong>Firebox</strong> flash disk.
