MEDIA RELEASEChicago, Illinois, USA – 23 February, 2006NobelGuide, the planning and surgical concept from NobelBiocare, enables dentists to place an implant and fully functioningtooth in one patient visitNobelGuide from Nobel Biocare, the world leader in innovative esthetic dentalsolutions, makes it possible for dentists to safely place a dental implant and fullyfunctioning tooth within one patient visit. NobelGuide takes advantage of NobelBiocare’s Procera® surgical planning software and the surgical technique calledFlapless Surgery, which is comparable to “keyhole surgery”. Heliane Canepa,President and CEO for Nobel Biocare said, “If dentists can do crowns and bridges, then with Procera® and NobelGuide, they plan the exact placement of a patient’simplants and can offer a complete root-to-tooth solution.”Dental professionals positively received the NobelGuide planning and surgical conceptlaunched last year at the company’s World Conference in Las Vegas. Canepa said,“NobelGuide is the most exciting new concept in implantology in the past 20 years. Theresponse was overwhelming as dentists realized they can now safely and quickly letpatients with lost teeth enjoy a normal life again.”Using the NobelGuide concept, dentists plan the entire implant treatment, including howmany, which length and which angle of insertion using the Procera® software. CT computerscanned data or a plaster model of the patient’s teeth and mouth are used as the foundationto map the shape and location of bone.Nobel Biocare or a dental laboratory creates a surgical template complete with guide holes, based on the planning data, for use during surgery. Canepa said, “The precision planningoffered by the Procera® software provides dentists with a way to accurately place implants.”NobelGuide’s surgical template offers dentists a less invasive method as an alternative tomajor surgery that requires cutting and pulling back the soft tissue around the patient’sjawbone. Instead, the surgical template is secured over the patient’s soft tissue and thedentist drills through the soft tissue into the bone using the pre-planned guide holes. “UsingNobelGuide, patients no longer need suffer from the bruising, pain and swelling normallyassociated with dental surgery. In most cases, patients can return to work the next day”,said Canepa. The advance planning capabilities of NobelGuide enable dentists to work closely withtheir dental laboratory and offer patients the option of a temporary or a final prostheticsolution fitted at the time of implant placement. Canepa said, “The most exciting news aboutNobelGuide is that on the day of surgery, the patient leaves the dentist’s office completewith implants and fully functioning, beautiful teeth.”Conventional methods for implant placement and teeth restoration can take more than 10patient visits. Using NobelGuide, the entire treatment, from examination to implantplacement can take as little as 4 patient visits.1 (4)

How NobelGuide Works:1. Patient receives a CT scan or a model of their mouth is created.2. With a complete view of the patient’s bone structure, the dentist uses the Procera®software system to plan the placement of the implants, along with length and optimalangle.3. A surgical template is created by Nobel Biocare using CT data scans or by the dentallaboratory using a plaster model.4. The dental laboratory prepares a temporary or permanent crown or bridge, dependingon the dentist and patient needs.5. On the day of surgery, the dentist uses the surgical template to optimally place theimplants and installs the temporary or permanent prosthetic restoration. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared NobelGuide.Reference: http://investor.nobelbiocare.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=139018&p=iroldownloadcenter2 (4)
