standing weight of green mature bamboo in the forests, the price payable by HNLto the government for the net weight of harvested bamboo can directly be arrivedat by calculating its equivalent standing weight using the weight conversion factor(given in Table 2 or Appendix-3) and multiplying it with the notified price.4. CONCLUSIONSThe estimated average moisture content of 45.23% and conversion factors are newinformation to the government as well as scientific communities. The priceconversion factor can be used for deriving the price of bamboo at 50% moisturecontent from the notified price in a financial year. Price payable by HNL in afinancial year for each metric tonne of bamboo at 50% moisture content can befound out by simply multiplying the notified price in the same year with the priceconversion factor of 0.9129. The weight conversion factor can be used fordetermining the equivalent standing weight of bamboo as in the forests from theweight of harvested bamboo with known moisture content. The price payable byHNL to the government for the net weight of harvested bamboo in a financial yearcan directly be arrived at by multiplying its equivalent standing weight with thenotified price in the same year. The advantage of having the weight conversionfactors which can readily be used is that the weight of standing bamboo in theforests, which is the basis of the government price notification, can easily beestimated from the weight of harvested bamboo. This is in line with the spirit ofthe government orders fixing the selling price of bamboo based on the weight ofthe standing crop in the forests.10
