QSEC sets galloping pacewww.qsec.com.auCaboolture’s world-class <strong>Queensland</strong> State Equestrian Centre (QSEC) is gearing up for an actionpacked year, with its first major equestrian event locked in for early October.The $17.285 millioncouncil-built centre, whichreceived Australian and<strong>Queensland</strong> governmentfunding assistance, willprovide an exciting newvenue for international,national, state and elitechampionships, while alsomeeting local and regionalequestrian and sportingclub needs.The recently-openedcentre’s site coversmore than 30 hectaresbetween the CabooltureShowgrounds and theCaboolture HistoricalVillage.QSEC’s facilities includeone of Australia’s largestcovered sand arenas,state-of-the-art audio-visualcapabilities, spectatorseating, all-weather sandand grass arenas, warm upareas, 150 stables, eightwash bays, 48 campsiteswith power and wateraccess, additional informalcamp sites, meeting andtraining rooms, and alicensed bar.The first major equestrianevent, the Nathan HorseFloats 2011<strong>Queensland</strong>Dressage Championships,will be held from 7 to 9October, and the centre’smanagement has alreadyreceived bookings fromequestrian groups and thewider community throughto 2015.As well as major events,the centre will host masterclasses with elite equestriancompetitors, school toursand learn-to-ride programs.See www.qsec.com.au formore details.Recycling easierat BunyaImproving Scarborough’s foreshoreRecycling has become eveneasier at the Bunya landfillsite now that it has its ownresource recovery area.Two major foreshoreparks at Scarboroughwill be getting faceliftswith work expected tobegin in September.The projects, in EndeavourPark and ScarboroughBeach Park, are in keepingwith each site’s masterplan and will deliver someimportant new facilities intime for Christmas.At Scarborough Beach Parkcouncil has just completedan upgrade of the car park.Improvements at the northernend of this much-loved parkwill include new picnic shelters,landscaping with additionalshade trees, an improvedcycleway and new playgroundequipment. Scarborough’siconic pines will remain aprominent feature of thelandscape.The $300,000 first stage of theEndeavour Park project willcomprise new shelters, tables,seating, a drinking fountain,barbecue, playgroundpathways and associatedlandscaping. Largeexpanses of open spacewill also be retained, alongwith the spectacular viewsof Deception <strong>Bay</strong> and theGlass House Mountains.By enhancing facilities inboth parks, council aimsto ensure they remaincherished community areasfor years to come.Residents using the wastemanagement facility arenow directed to an areawhere they can dispose oftheir waste into designatedsections, depending on whatthey are carrying.It means a greater percentageof recyclable material such ascardboard, garden waste andtimber can be recovered, andless waste goes into landfill.Similar resource recoveryareas can be found atCaboolture and Dakabinwaste management facilities.6
