Transportation Security Officer (Screener) (TSO)Airport Fact SheetThank you for your interest in joining the Transportation Security Administration’s BoiseAir Terminal/Gowen Field team. If you are selected as a Transportation Security Officer(Screener TSO), you will play an important role in the overall mission of the Departmentof Homeland Security (DHS) by contributing to the daily security requirements at theBoise Air Terminal/Gowen Field.Given the nature of our mission at TSA, there are some unique expectations of theposition for which you have applied. Specifically, you will be responsible for identifyingdangerous objects in bags, cargo, and/or passengers and preventing these objects frombeing transported onto aircraft. You will be required to perform various tasks such as :hand-wanding, passengers, pat down searches, lifting of baggage (weighing up to 70pounds) and performing screening duties using various electronic equipment. The TSOjob is stressful at times and physically demanding. You will need to stand continuouslyfor anywhere between one (1) to four (4) hours without a break and walk up to two (2)miles during a shift. You will be required to perform the screening duties in a courteousand professional manner at all times.We believe, however that TSA also provides a rewarding opportunity for you to serveyour country. To assist you in your consideration of employment with TSA at the Boiseairport we have outlined some of those expectations and benefits for your review. BenefitsAs a Federal employee you are eligible for benefits as a full time and part time federalemployee. However, for part time employees, the cost of benefits is higher due to thenumber of hours you work during a pay period. If offered a position with TSA, youshould make sure that you ask for and receive a full explanation of the benefits you areeligible for before accepting a job offer.TrainingEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of the required training. Requiredhours for training include 64 hours of classroom training, and 105 hours of on-the-jobtraining. These hours will be on a full time work schedule. Once the required training iscomplete the work hours will be reduced to a part time work schedule. The traininglocation is currently under development; however, travel (at government expense) may berequired to attend the formal classroom training.UniformsUniforms are provided to employees by TSA. You will be measured for your newuniforms at your first orientation session. It is the responsibility of the employee to arriveto work with a clean and neat uniform and to adhere to the TSA Uniform Guidelines.Employees must provide their own black leather shoes with non-slip soles.Airport InformationHours of operation – The <strong>TSO</strong> workforce (day shift) reports to work at 4:00 a.m., and thenight shift ends at approximately 9:30 p.m.. The end of day operation may vary due tolate flight arrivals.Peak hours – 6:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m., then 2:00 p.m.-4 p.m.Category – CAT I airport (Large)Working conditions - The Boise airport is a new facility, opening its doors three yearsago. The <strong>TSO</strong>’s have a large break room with a refrigerator, microwave oven, andtelevisions for viewing during break times. The <strong>TSO</strong>’s are also provided with lockers tostore their personal belongings; however each <strong>TSO</strong> must provide their own lock for thelockers. The airport has several restaurants or food service vendors on the premises.
