Dear SMH Families– 

Welcome back! This summer was so much fun! Families arrived from all corners of the United 

States to join Summer @ the Hall. If you attended this summer, you know we had a record number 

of kids playing soccer, painting, building robots, taking a spa day, jumping in the bouncy house 

and eating snow cones. 

This fall we have added some exciting new classes for students and adults. We are looking forward 

to seeing all returning families and are anxious to meet all the new families joining us for the first 

time. 

Enrolling for enrichment programs continues to be an easy process through the SMH enrichment 

registration portal. If you are a returning family, your login and password remain the same as last 

year. For our new families, simply go online to www.smhall.org/enrichment and select the Fall @ 

the Hall registration button to set-up your account.

Boot Camp for Adults 

Get back “in the swing of things” in this Kettlebell 

based boot camp with Nicole Larson (Holtzapple) 

former SMH 2001‐2008 PE teacher, field hockey, 

and softball coach. Come join us for a total body 

workout in (1) hour utilizing the Kettlebell and 

SMH’s new athletic facilities! Exercising with Kettle‐ 

bells is a great way to gain strength, tone, increase 

flexibility, burn the max amount of calories, and get 

a great cardio workout all‐in‐one with little impact. 

This is a “one size fits all workout” and is modifiable 

for any fitness level working toward your personal 

goals! Workouts will also incorporate yoga, resis‐ 

tance training, nutrition information, at home work‐ 

outs, lots of fun, and much, much more. Kettlebell 

weight depends on the level of fitness, please con‐

Build Me Up! 

An exciting and educational class, where 

students rotate weekly to different build‐ 

ing stations. Students will learn the basics 

of engineering, how to build a solid base in 

order to construct unique and sturdy crea‐ 

tions as the class progresses from week to 

week. Students will work with different 

types and sizes of blocks, cans, plates and 

other creative materials as each student 

learns to problem solve and build struc‐ 

tures using solid engineering techniques. 

Each week children will learn how to build 

stronger and bigger structures as they 

learn from each other and the lesson of 

the week!

Duct Tape Gone Wild 

With its versatility and durability, duct 

tape is the source of a modern craft craze 

that “we’re really stuck on!” Join Suzy 

Brooks in a cool, crafty, exploration of all 

things duct tape with lots of fun projects 

to choose from each week. From top hats 

to purses, hair bands, wallets with creative 

ideas for all skill levels. Students will have 

access to all of the new colors and pat‐ 

terns available to mix and match so every‐ 

one can find his or her own unique style.

Electric Guitar 

Steve Owens brings new energy and methods of 

teaching guitar to students. The focus of the 

class teaches students the necessary skills to play 

familiar and favorite rock, country and pop songs 

using contemporary music as a study guide. 

Through this method, students stay interested 

and begin learning basic music theory, essential 

playing technique, chord progressions, strum‐ 

ming, and picking. Since boring and tedious ex‐ 

ercises normally associated with practicing can 

cause a student to lose interest, I found this to 

be a very effective way to capture a young per‐ 

son's imagination allowing them to make real 

progress and hopefully begin a lifetime associa‐ 

tion with both guitar and music.

Fall into Art 

In this beginning art class, children will refine 

fine motor skills and gain creativity while 

learning how to combine simple shapes which 

are familiar; circles, squares, triangles and 

more. Using familiar shapes children learn to 

draw or compose complex objects. A variety 

of age appropriate media and techniques 

will be used to create works of art including 

drawing, rendering, cut and paste and creat‐ 

ing collages.

Guitar with George Gaytan 

This class will introduce your child to the 

magical world of guitar! Mr. Gaytan will 

teach your child musical note reading, 

proper strumming techniques, finger place‐ 

ment and music appreciation. By the end of 

each session, students will have the begin‐ 

ning of what may be a long list of music for 

enjoyable playing. Whether it’s playing in a 

rock group, teaching classical guitar at the 

college level or sitting one quiet evening 

with friends playing old James Taylor songs, 

you’ll always love the fact that your child 

can pick up a guitar and play the chords 

learned in beginning guitar classes with Mr. 

Gaytan.

If your child is interested in golf, this class 

is a good place to learn the fundamentals 

and values of a great game. Golf is some‐ 

thing the whole family can enjoy and your 

child can begin a lifelong love for the 

game. Young golfers will learn swing ba‐ 

sics, putting, chipping and strategy along 

with etiquette and core values. Whether 

your child is a beginner or experienced 

golfer, this class is fun and challenging. 

Coach Beutler will help improve all levels 

of players by enhancing the child’s natural 

ability and developing skills for the future.

Holiday Artsy Kids 

An art class for holiday fun where kids who 

love to draw and create will love the holi‐ 

day characters and themes introduced this 

session. Students will learn to make a 

pumpkin look three dimensional or make a 

string of lights look "shiny." Art teacher 

Suzy Brooks inspires all budding artists and 

creative kids.

Horse Academy 

Come join the instructors at Oak Valley Stables in this fun and exciting camp. Riders at 

Oak Valley learn all the fundamentals of horsemanship, grooming, saddling, riding and 

all aspects of loving a horse. Oak Valley offers riding instruction in both English and 

Western Disciplines. Horse Academy was offered this summer and became one of the 

most popular and loved experiences. Oak Valley Stables fosters an atmosphere of cama‐ 

raderie as kids of all ages help each other and have fun as they ride. Transportation is 

provided by SMH to and from Oak Valley Stables and the Student Enrichment instructor 

will be actively involved with our students throughout each session.

Little MacGyvers 

MacGyver is famous for creating amazing and 

useful tools out of found materials. Children are 

encouraged to use imagination, ingenuity and 

creativity in this class. Ms. Gallardo has many 

unique inventions! Examples from previous 

classes include; flashlights, glowing goo, and a 

magnetic tool kit. Children can take this class 

again and again because no two Little MacGyver 

classes are ever the same!

Kick Start Your Heart 

Children will be introduced to many fun 

childhood sports and learn basic rules, skills, 

team‐work, and sportsmanship. In this fun 

and active class, children will practice skills 

essential for future athletics by gaining hand 

eye coordination, strategy, while having lots 

of fun. Activities will include a variety of in‐ 

door and outdoor sports and activities. Fu‐ 

ture Olympians may be made here! This 

class is great in combination with Little 

Sportsers which offered in Session 2.

Math Blast Jr. 

Enrich your child's daily math lessons through 

art and games that take daily math learning to 

new and exciting levels. Once your child sees

appreciation and excitement for math, which 

is essential in their coming school years.

Little Sportsters 

A great beginning sports class for boys and girls 

which introduces the basics of soccer, T‐ball, flag

and catching and will also be encouraged to learn 

teamwork, the value of cooperation and sports‐

Fun Friday with Mr. B is a great way to end a

Piano for Beginners 

In this course, designed for the young beginner, students will learn how to play short melodies 

with both the left and right hands as well as learning about rhythm and note placement on the 

grand staff. We will listen to music by well known composers as well as recent songs from our 

American Pop Culture. Students will be given CDs to take home and enjoy periodically through 

the course of the class to further encourage their listening and interpretive skills. Class size is 

limited to seven and students must be five years old to begin.

Rhyme Time with Mrs. Hinson 

Research has found that children who are familiar with rhymes often have an easier time 

learning to read. The ability to hear rhymes is an essential skill for learning to read because it 

means that your child can discern the differences among individual sounds. Playing with 

rhymes trains the ear to hear the differences and similarities in how words sound. In this pro‐ 

gram children will have fun while learning/reinforcing their rhyming skills! Through poems, 

stories, songs and activities your child will have a blast while learning this essential skill!

Storybook Cooking 

Join your favorite storybook characters in 

tales of food and fun! Many classic children's 

stories are based on food and cooking. In this 

exciting class, we take these familiar stories 

to the next level. Be ready to eat, laugh, sing 

and play as we make mouse cookies, moose 

muffins, pig pancakes and more. Each class 

includes stories, games or songs, and age ap‐ 

propriate hands‐on cooking experiences re‐ 

lated to popular children's books.

Techno Kids 

This is a wonderful course for all students 

showing them how to use technology to make 

class projects come to life! Students will be 

introduced to several computer programs that 

will help them make graphic vocabulary pres‐ 

entations, comic strips and cartoon presenta‐ 

tions, BrainQuest and BrainPop races, online 

book covers and more. There is so much to do 

online for children to enrich what they are 

learning in school. Let your child be a step 

ahead of the others as they are introduced to 

these wonderful learning sites. All sites and 

examples of students’ daily work will be sent 

home each day of camp! Don’t miss out on

The SMH after school program focuses on proper tennis mechanics as a base for this lifetime 

sport. The hand eye coordination skills that are developed from tennis as young as 4 years of 

age will also enhance and support athletic skills required in all other sports. This class is for all 

levels of tennis players! Children have a blast playing games like jail, and will also learn tennis 

etiquette and score keeping.

Tino’s Vumba for Adults 

Join Tino Valles for a fun dance workout! Tino’s version of Zumba is a fast moving class to get 

your body moving to popular and current music! Guaranteed to be a fast moving, energetic 

and up‐beat class anyone who loves to dance and have some fun. Definitely more fun that 

your ordinary exercise class! All classes meet in the SMH dance building on Wednesday morn‐ 

ings at 8:05 am. Not sure if this class is right for you? Come meet Tino, workout and learn 

some dance moves that will make your kids smile!
