23.15 Private drivers who have had surgery for epilepsyApplicationAssessment guidelinesFitness guidelinesOSMV determinationguidelinesConditionsRestrictionsRe-assessmentguidelinesThese guidelines apply to driver fitness determinations for privatedrivers who have had surgery for epilepsy.If further information is required, OSMV will request: a Driver’s Medical Examination Report additional information from the treating physician, or an assessment from a neurologist.Individuals may drive if: they have not had a seizure for 6 months they routinely follow their treatment regime and physician’s adviceregarding prevention of seizures, and where they have a subsequent seizure, they stop driving for at least6 months or a longer period where recommended by their treatingphysician and do not have a seizure during that time.OSMV may find individuals fit to drive if: they have not had a seizure for 6 months they routinely follow their treatment regime and physician’s adviceregarding prevention of seizures, and where they have a subsequent seizure, they stop driving for at least6 months or a longer period where recommended by their treatingphysician and do not have a seizure during that time.OSMV will impose the following conditions on an individual who isfound fit to drive: you must routinely follow your treatment regime and physician’sadvice regarding prevention of seizures, and you must cease driving and report to OSMV and your physician ifyou have a seizureNo restrictions are required.OSMV will re-assess in five years.
