2 Configuring InterfacesThis chapter describes how to configure and monitor the various types of interfaces supported byNokia IP security platforms, as well as other topics related to physical and logical interfaces, such as how to aggregate Ethernet ports and configure GRE and DVMRP tunnels.Interface OverviewNokia IPSO supports the following interface types.• Ethernet/Fast Ethernet• Gigabit Ethernet• VPN TunnelingConfiguring Network DevicesNetwork Voyager displays network devices as physical interfaces. A physical interface exists foreach physical port on a network interface card (NIC) installed in the appliance. Physicalinterface names have the form:-spwhere: is a prefix indicating the device type. is the number of the slot the device occupies in the appliance. is the port number of the NIC. The first port on a NIC is port one. For example, atwo-port Ethernet NIC in slot 2 is represented by two physical interfaces: eth-s2p1 andeth-s2p2.The loopback interface also has a physical interface named loop0.Use Network Voyager to set attributes of interfaces. For example, line speed and duplex modeare attributes of an Ethernet physical interface. Each communications port has exactly onephysical interface.Nokia Network Voyager Reference Guide for IPSO 6.0 27
