On successful completion of the course,course participants should have a broader outlook on language teaching issues, a wider range ofabilities in the use of language and in language teaching, possess competence in professionaldevelopment and a positive approach to Putonghua teaching. They should also be able to undertakeclassroom research and show interest in further professional development.STRUCTUREThe course, which is normally offered twice a year in September and February, adopts a modular creditpoint system. Each module comprising related learning topics are assigned one or more credit points.Coherent modules are grouped under a learning domain. Each credit point is equivalent to 15contact or directed study hours. The course comprises the following areas of studies:1. Language Knowledge & Competence2. Language Teaching Theory & Its Application3. Professional Development4. Teaching PracticeRemarks:In response to the Government’s newly implemented policy on Language Proficiency Assessments(LPA) required for all English/Putonghua language teachers, this Course is being restructured and thecourse information provided here is subject to changes. If the revisions of the Course are approved,participants who successfully pass the internal LPA-related assessments of the Course will be certifiedas having reached the equivalent proficiency standards in accordance with the Government’s LanguageProficiency Assessments.ENTRY REQUIREMENTSAll applicants should:1. be in-service registered teachers of primary schools;2. have teaching experience in Putonghua or possess a required level of proficiency in Putonghua; and3. be recommended by their Heads of Schools.1

Those who have attended the same course in the last five years will not be considered.2. During the studies of this Course, participants can enroll on the Putonghua enhancement coursesoffered by the Institute’s Centre for Language in Education according to their individual need.3. Priority will be given to applicants who have 5 years or more teaching experience after havingobtained recognized qualified teacher status or have been recommended for promotion.OTHER INFORMATION1. Schools may apply to the Government for provision to appoint supply teachers. Details areavailable from the Regional Education Office of the Education Department concerned.2. Course participants who satisfy the assessment requirements of the Course will be eligible for credittransfer (10 credits) for the B.Ed course offered by the Open University of Hong Kong.3. To be recommended for an award, course participant must obtain a pass in all modules taken andsuccessfully fulfil the attendance requirements.課 程 目 標本 課 程 旨 在 為 小 學 普 通 話 科 教 師 提 供 在 職 培 訓 機 會 , 提 高 他 們 教 授 普 通 話 的 成 效 。 學 員 修 畢課 程 後 , 對 語 言 教 學 等 課 題 當 有 更 廣 泛 的 認 識 , 運 用 和 教 授 語 言 的 能 力 將 有 所 提 升 , 並 可 培養 出 專 業 發 展 的 能 力 及 教 授 普 通 話 的 正 確 方 法 ; 既 能 從 事 教 學 研 究 , 亦 會 培 養 出 對 專 業 發 展的 興 趣 。課 程 結 構本 課 程 每 學 年 開 辦 兩 次 ,㆒ 般 在 九 月 及 ㆓ 月 開 課 。 課 程 採 用 單 元 學 分 制 , 相 關 的 學 習 課 題 組合 成 ㆒ 個 單 元 , 佔 ㆒ 個 或 多 個 學 分 , 連 貫 的 單 元 則 組 合 成 學 習 範 疇 。 每 個 學 分 相 等 於 十 五 個授 課 小 時 ( 包 括 導 修 課 時 )。 內 容 包 括 以 ㆘ 範 疇 :1. 語 言 知 識 及 能 力2. 語 言 教 學 理 論 和 應 用3. 專 業 發 展4. 教 學 實 踐註 :為 了 配 合 政 府 推 行 的 在 職 英 文 科 / 普 通 話 科 教 師 「 語 文 能 力 評 核 」 政 策 ,㆖ 述 課 程 現 正 作 出修 訂 , 有 關 課 程 資 料 亦 將 有 所 更 改 。 若 修 訂 獲 得 通 過 , 而 學 員 又 能 通 過 本 課 程 有 關 「 語 文 能力 評 核 」 的 評 估 , 將 獲 另 外 頒 授 證 書 證 明 已 達 到 「 語 文 能 力 評 核 」 釐 訂 的 基 本 能 力 水 平 。2
