VENUE INFORMATIONThe IASS-IACM <strong>Conference</strong> venue is the capital ofBosnia and Herzegovina Sarajevo. The city urban areaprovides homes to the population of close to half amillion over a spread of more than 20 km along theMiljacka river. Sarajevo, which is located in the centerof the country, has been the major crossroad onmigrations path and conquests by Eastern RomanEmpire, Slavs, Jews from Spain, Turkish and Austro-Hungarian Empires, each leaving their imprints andcontributing to the rich cultural heritage and a numberof monumental buildings that still remain in the city.In more recent time, city of Sarajevo is famous for1984 Winter Olympic Games, and sadly famous forsuffering during long war after the break-up ofYugoslavia. The ‘ambiance’ is quite different now,and Sarajevo has become a new tourist ‘must-see’destination. Month of April is the period just beforethe massive arrival of tourists, and weather is alreadysufficiently mild for a pleasant visit. We hope to beable to welcome you on this occasion.<strong>Conference</strong> venue/ contact address:Gradjevinski fakultet (see Figure below)(with sign: IASS-IACM 2012)exact address: ulica patriotske lige 30,71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia - HerzegovinaTel. : +387(0)33278400Fax : +387(0)33200158E-mail : gfsa@gf.unsa.baIASS-IACM 2012 WEB PAGEThe final announcement, the conference program anddetailed information about the IASS-IACM 2012 willbe available at the meeting web page:http://www.gf.unsa.ba/iass-iacm-2012/For further information contact:Prof. Adnan IBRAHIMBEGOVIC(c/o IASS-IACM 2012)ENS-Cachan, LMT/ GCE61, av. du president Wilson94235 Cachan cedex, FranceTel. : +33(0)1 47 40 22 34 / 39Fax : +33(0)1 47 40 22 40E-mail : ai@lmt.ens-cachan.frIASS-IACM 2012 <strong>Conference</strong>First Announcement &Call for papersIASS-IACM 2012:7 th <strong>International</strong> <strong>Conference</strong> onComputational Mechanics forSpatial StructuresApril 2 - 4, 2012Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovinaco-organized by:Travel / Hotels: Sarajevo can easily be reached by adirect flight from most European capitals. OBJECTIVES OF IASS-IACM 2012It is fair to say that the challenge of constructingspatial structures (including the primadonas amongthem, the shells) was initially the main driving forcefor scientific developments and creation of IASS (byEduardo Torroja in 1959) and of IACM (by OlekZienkiewicz in 1981). Nowadays, these fields haveexpanded tremendously beyond what was initiallymeant, thanks to the success of powerfulcomputational tools and methods (interestinglyenough, there is still not a perfect shell element, evenfor linear problems!). It is also fair to say that manyof the same people, who initially contributed to earlydevelopments, were among those who firstrecognized the potential of the developed tools fortackling different application fields outside of theinitial scope. In fact, the current scientific research isvery much driven by the applications and manychallenging problems that the society at large thrustsupon the scientists to solve is very muchinterdisciplinary (eg. structure durability problem thatinvolves structural mechanics, fluids, heat transfer, optimization, identification, probability …).The main goal of IASS-IACM 2012 <strong>Conference</strong> is toprovide a critical assessment of the currentknowledge and indicate new challenges in thecomputational modelling of spatial structures, whichis in general the most important component of anyparticular inter-disciplinary problem we might beinterested in. Here can be presented the research onspatial structures coming form a number of domainsof application: Aerospace, Civil or MechanicalEngineering, or yet Material Science (very much likevarious domains of expertise of co-organizer,Laboratory of Mechanics and Technology-Cachan).The common ground for all problems of this kindfrom the viewpoint of scientific contents, which alsojustifies putting them on the same basis andaddressing them within the same meeting, is thecomputational methods, be they destined for analysis, design or testing. The IASS-IACM 2012 will also address the issue onwhat is the role of a spatial structure specialist in thepresent inter-disciplinary scientific research? Moreover, a special session/debate will be organizedon what is the best educational/ training program fornurturing the next generation of specialists.INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARDAbel J., President IASS/ Chairman IASS-IACM 2008Combescure A., President CSMA, FranceMang H., Chairman Congress ECCOMAS 2012Ohayon R., First President CSMA, FrancePapadrakakis M., President ECCOMAS/ Chairman IASS-IACM 2000Ramm E., Chairman IASS-IACM 2005Verbic B., Academy of Sciences and Arts of BHWriggers P., Vice-President IACM Europe-AfricaYagawa G., President IACMINTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE…. to be completed (see web-site)…ORGANIZING COMMITTEEIbrahimbegovic A., ENS Cachan, FranceDolarevic S., University of Sarajevo, BHHrasnica M., University of Sarajevo, BHMadjarevic M., University of Sarajevo, BHZlatar M, University of Sarajevo, BHIASS-IACM 2012 TOPICSAccording to the preliminary program, the introductorykeynote lectures of each day of this meeting should setthe contents and the boundaries as well as indicate themain issues concerning the computational methods forstructural analysis, design and testing. The keynotelectures can also be integrated within an organizedsession. A number of organized sessions (containing 4-6papers) will be scheduled at the meeting. In summary, the <strong>Conference</strong> themes to be addressed are:A- analysis of spatial structuresB- design of spatial structuresC- testing of spatial structuresD- industrial applications/ constructionThe papers for any of 4 <strong>Conference</strong> themes, can dealwith topics such as: structural models (cables, beams, plates, shells); finite element technology; innovativeanalysis methods; structural and multi-bodydynamics; instability and buckling; contact withstructures; fracture and localized failure;constitutive material models; fabrics, laminates andcomposites; reinforced-concrete structures;metallic structures; inflatable and deployablestructures; structure-fluid interaction problems;structural optimization and form-finding;mathematical foundations; biomechanicsstructures; industrial applications …All accepted papers will be published in the form ofextended abstract in a book of Proceedings alongwith the textbook containing the selected full-sizecontributed papers and keynote lectures.
