guidelines whenbeginning a fitnessprogramUnder 30: You can start an aerobic exerciseprogram if you have had a physical examinationwithin the past year and the doctor did not limit youractivity.30 to 39: You should have a physical examination,including an electrocardiogram taken at rest, withinthree months prior to beginning an aerobic exerciseprogram.40 - 59: You should have a physical examination,which includes electrocardiograms taken both whileat rest and while exercising, within the three monthsprior to beginning an aerobic exercise program.Over 59: You should have a physical examinationperformed immediately prior to beginning an aerobicexercise program.
