Academy development onhold for now.’The MP’s office contacted the club askingthem to confirm if the academy plans hadstalled. Wigan responded by saying they werenot making a public statement on this matter.In mid–May following the club’s relegationfrom the Premier League, Ms Cooper wrote toWigan’s chief executive, Jonathan Jackson,asking the club to confirm if it intended topursue its plans to develop a training academyin Wrightington. The club have yet to reply.Speaking following this most recentdevelopment, the MP said: “It is simplyoutrageous that Wigan Athletic continue toremain silent about their training academyplans despite the chairman’s reportedcomments that they’re on hold. I believeWrightington residents deserve to be given ananswer one way or another over the clubsintentions.
